haveinvented certain new and useful lin-A provenients in ReciprocatingPiston Engines; and do hereby declare the followlng to he a full, clear, and exact description o the invention, such as will enable others .skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accoinpanyin drawings, and to letters or figures of reerenoe marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication;
This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in reciprocating piston-engines and it comprises the features of construction and parts thereof, which will hereinafter be fully described and specified with reference to the accompanying drawings, where: c
Figure l is a vertical sectional View through a pistoneengine and its crank. Fig. 2, represents the crank-arrangement *alone and Fig. 3 is a plan of the same. l
A is the fly-wheel shaft on which the fiywheel D is fixed. y
B is a disk forged on the iywheehshaft A and provided with a slot C. In this slot is siidahly mounted a bearing E for the end ot the crank pin l?. The driving-shaft G is parallel to the flywheel-Shaft A and lies in the saine horizontal plane. lt is however not in. line with the iiywheehshatt g but is placed a distance :v to the side (see Figs. 2
descending pieton, the crank pin F is 'at its largest distance :troni the center ofthe disk,
and thus has the longest arni relative to the iiywheel-shaft A. n During the upward movement et the pistonfthexarin'gets and reaches .its
The crankpin F being integralv shortest length on" the piston passing.. itsmidway position. By placing the iywheelshaft thus relative to the crankshaft is obtained the advantage of a much smoother running ot' the machine. The object of the vrotation it is clear that it `will always rotate quicker during expansion than during compression. With the usual crank arrangements this will therefore also be the case with the crankshaft.
By the arrangement hereby specified and' illustrated it will beeasily seen that the 'half-turn of the flywheel-shaft during which v shaft and vice versa, and the part of a turn of the crank-shaft corresponding to each of yflywheel being to take up'irregularities in the half-turns of the iywheel-shaft, can be A* adjusted' by chan ing the distance arbe# tween the two sha ts, By this arrangement a thoroughly even and quiet running of the crank-shaft is .obtained without an'inordinally heavy' fiywheel, and hereby there is gained a-great advantage also regarding the efiiciency of the machine.
'Ifhe invention canbe advantageously adapted to pumps as well as to motors, with approximately the saine effect and the oonnection between the two shafts can be car the spirit of the invention.
Claims.
