FINGERS FOR PULLING-OVER AND LAS'I'ING MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. June 5, 1912. Serial No. 701,881.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RUDOLE ERNST GRAIN, a subject of the Grand Duke of Sane-Veimar, residing at 18 Kumeliusstrasse, Oberursel-am-Taunus, in the Kingdom of Prussia and Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pincers for Pulling-Over and Lasting Machines, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pincers for pulling over and lasting machines, which, as usual, consist of a stationary jaw and a movable jaw.
The said invention has for its object to enable the pincers, when stretching or pull ing over leather of varying thickness, for instance at the point of the shoe where the parts of the toe cap and insert-ions meetthe upper and lining, to grip equally well at all points by the entire width of the jaws; the movable jaw being designed to assume an oblique position relatively to the fixed jaw in accordance with the differences in the thickness of the leather.
In the accompanying drawing is shown, by way of example, a preferred constructional form of the said invention, Figure 1 representing a side elevation of the pincers, and Fig. 2 a front view of the movable pincer jaw..
For opening and closing the pincers, the movable jaw is operated by toggle- links 1 and 14, said links being actuated by a vertical rod 15, connected with any preferred power. By these means, the movable jaw 3, is brought forward into contact with the stationary jaw 2 and moved back into the open position, as desired. The jaw 3, extending to the joint 1, on the projection 4t, constitutes an aXis and by its cylindrical upper part 6 is adapted to turn freely in the head-piece 7 connecting the two togglelinks 1 and 14, thus enabling the jaw 3 to assume an oblique position relatively to the stationary jaw 2 when gripping material of varying thickness. The shaft 5 being comparatively thin, it is turned very easily with the jaw 3.
I claim 1. In pincers of the type described, a body, a stationary jaw thereon, a fixed pro jection on'said body having a socket, a movable jaw having a terminal ball to engage said socket, a head piece on said. movable jaw having a vertical socket, said movable jaw being rounded to engage in said vertical socket and toggle-links operatively connecting said movable jaw to the fixed jaw.
2. In pincers of the character described a stationary jaw, a movable jaw provided with a head piece, toggle links operat-ively connecting said stationary jaw and said head piece and a rod for operating said toggle links, said movable jaw being adapted to turn freely in said head piece and being connected by a universal joint to said stationary jaw.
RUDOLF ERNST GRAIN.
