DISPENSING APPARATUS To rill whom it may concern ,,Be it. known that I, ISRAEL KLAYMaN, a subject of the Emperor of Russia, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Apparatus, of
great saving of ice, and wh' ih'sha-ll also be symmetrical'in shape and artistic in design. To this end my invention consists of a novel'constructi'on and combination of parts in which four sets of dispensing outlets are combined in one unitary organization, one set atfeach end of a counter and two in the middle, each set comprising a soda water spigot and a plurality of flavoring syrup spigots, all combined with soda water and syrup pipes and cooling devices and in which the ice chambers are arranged in elevated'position above the counter and at opposite ends thereof and serve the purpose of cooling the soda water pipes and syrup containers, the water resulting from the melted ice serving to bathe the soda water and syrup pipes and absorb heat therefrom to the point of discharge.
Figure l is a front elevation of my new soda water fountain. Fig. 2 is a view taken from behind the counter, with parts in vertical section. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the broken line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section on line 44 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse section on line 5-5 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 6
is a vertical transverse section on line 66 of Fig. 2.

two series for as many flavors as may be ,ice towers T are. arranged soda water spigot s of flavors. t will thus be seen that there are four places where four clerksmayin'dependently dispense both soda water and syrups.
On top of the elevated ice towers'a'reelec- Ftric lights L L and on top of the central ifountain stand an electric light Z. F and F are rotating fans arranged" on the inner faces of the upper portion of theice towers andv which are actuated by suitable mecha Efnism and cooperate with each other, as will Zlie more fully described hereafter.
The ice towers T are, see Figs. 2 and 3, each arranged to receive an ice container I iof galvanized iron having perforated sides Eand botto and'a solid front provided with ia. handle zby which it may he slid out on la subjacent roller R to be filled with ice.
{Beside the ice chamber .and between it and {the inner side of the tower, there are disjposed the syrup cans E, E E E, E
From the bottom of each can a pipe extends pipe 6 syrup spigot (Z of the tower and desired. On the" inner face ofea'ch' of the lA A and; a series of syrup spigot/se cl" correspondin respectively, to the number syrup spigot b of the central fountain stand.
There are, asshownin Fig. 3, five of these syrup cans E to E for as many flavors, with five individual pipes ef to 6 communieating with the two series' of syrup spigots d to d and b to b. A similar set of con- Tnections 'l s arranged for each tower, so that, as before stated, four clerks may independently serve, each from his own position, :both soda water and syrups.
The soda'water coming from the'reservoir tank, not shown, enters the apparatus from the left hand side of Fig. 2 by way of pipe P. This communicates with a coil'l iatank G- at the base of the ice tower, then descends by pipe 2 through an overflow tube It to horizontal pipe 3 in a shallow horizontal- '-t'rough H running the full lengtli of the counter from tower to tower. The pipe 3 rises at 4, under the other tower, to coil' 5 in another tank G, in-.the base'of that ice -;tower, and then is bent down at 6 to the horizontalstrough H in which it extends to pipes up to the v To maintain the water at a definite level proceeds upwardly by pipe 9 to the two central soda water dispensing spigots A. A The soda water spigots A A of the ice towers are connected to the soda water circulation pipe by branches 20 and 21. It will thus be seen that each of the four sets of the syrup spigots is provided with its own soda water spigot.
As the ice melts in the ice containers of the towers'the ice water passes through the perforations of the ice containers I into the subjacent pan G, which it fills to the level of the overflow pipe h, at which level the coils 1 and 5 are completely immersed in the cold ice water. As this ice water overflows through pipe it into the long horizontal trough H it there completely immerses the syrup and soda Water pipes as they proceed to the central fountain stand. This is a feature of importance, for when business is slack the soda water and syrupstanding in the horizontal pipes would become warm and consequently the drinks dispensed at the central fountain would become warm, but in my invention theice water bathes these central dispensing point.
- in the shallow trough, an overflow pipe K ately behind the central fountain opens at its upper end in the trough H at the level the water is to be maintained and the water exceeding this level overflows down pipe K into a subjacent tank 3' in which is further maintained the body of cold ice water immersing the coil 8 for continuing the cooling of the soda water pipe. The
level of the water-in this tank is maintained by another overflow pipe M which opens at its upper end in tank J atthe level the water is to stand and descends thence into the metal lined bottom of the counter beneath false bottom Q, Figs. 4, 5, 6, whence it passes out by the. outlet pipe 6.
It will be seen that the trough H carrying the horizontal pipes is immediately below the counter and closely adjacent to the same. This leaves ample storage space for the re frigerator below. Furthermore, the trough H is below the tanks Grand above the tank J which allows the drip water to feed from gravity through the entire apparatus from both ends to the middle, bathing the pipes in cold water at every point and without encroa'ching on the storage space of the refrigerator.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the soda water and syrups are cooled not only in the ice towers, but also all the way up to the dispensing point of the central fountain and by the ,waste water coming from the ice towers.
On the inner sideof the counter immedistand the marble slab -is widened, as at G, Figs. 3, 5, 6, for the purpose of forming a support for the glasses in drawing syrup, but at other oewe points along the inner side the counter is beveled at the top, as seen in Figs. 4, 5, 6. Along this bevel space is arranged either hinged or removable doors U, U, while lower down other doors U U give access to the show case and the space below the counter forming a refrigerator. This space receives cold air from the ice towers which flows downwardly through openings in the counter. I
At one point in rear ofthe counter there is an open space V, see Figs. 2 and 6, in which is contained a sink 0 and water spigot N for washing the glasses.
In the end portions of the counter just below each ice tower there is a water motor consisting of a water wheel W receiving water from a spigot w. This wheel turns a sprocket 17 from which a chain belt 18 extends to another sprocket 19 on the same shaft with a smaller sprocket 10, from which latter a chain belt 11 extends up into the ice tower between the syrup cans and the side of the tower and connects with and drives a sprocket 12 on the same shaft as the fan W. This furnishes means for driving the fan at a high rate of speed, but any other form of motor, such as an electric motor,
might be used. vThe fans F and F it will be seen, face each other on the inner-side of the upper portion of theqtowersand when they are in action the air blasts from, each oppose each other and produce about the central dispensing fountain a gyratory set of currents whic circulate about the central fountain, keeping away flies and cooling the customers.
To permit the removal of the ice chamhers and syrup cans from the ice towers, each tower has on its inner side a hinged door X, as seen best in Fig. 3.
In carrying out my invention, I would have it understood that I do not confine myself to the exactconstruction and a1- rangement of parts shown, but may modify or change many of its features without departing from my invention as set forth in the claims.
I claim:
