Letters Patent No. 105,758, dated July 2`6,1STQ
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING BUGG-Y-SEA'I".
TheScheule referred to in`these Letters Patent and making part ofth same.
Be it known` that I, THOMAS H. VVOD, of the city, county, andStatc of NewYork, have invented a new and improved Folding tBuggy-Seat; and Ido hereby declare that the followingiis a full, clear, and exact dei script-ion thereof, which will enable others skilledin the `art to make and use the same, reference being had lto the accompanying drawing forming part of this l specification, in which-- Figures l and 2 are longitudinal vertical sections of my improved folding buggy-seat, showing it in diierent positions. l
`Figure 3 isa plan `view, partly in section, of the same. i y y i Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding This invention relatesto a new {1y-seat, applied behind an'ordinarybuggy-seat, or to any suitable kind of wheeled-vehicle, wit-h an object of being brought f out of .the way and entirelyout of sight, when not used. i i v The invention cousists,chieiiy, in hinging oraflixing the seat to the hinged back plate of the vehicle, so
that it will be carried` back with the same, when to be used, and concealed in the body of the vehicle, when not used. i f
The' intention consists, also, in providing an inclined track `in the carriage-body,'tor supporting the front fend of the iiyseat in `it lal positions; also, in ef back of the buggy, so he seat, when the same hinging the deck-plank;
is thrown back. y
4A in the drawing represents the body of a buggy or `other wheeled vehicle, 4
a a being the side' planks;
b the back; w
c the bottom; and
d the deck-plank. y N i y The bat-kb is, at` its lower end, hinged to the bottom, whilethe back end of the deck-plank l is hinged to the back b. y
It is, at its backedge, hinged to the face ofthe back -b, whileits front is provided with projecting arms e e, which nslide on inclined bars fthatare arranged near the sides, within the bodyot' the vehicle.
Instead of being guided on the bars f, the arms c, ol"` their equivalents, maybe held on tracks, or work track or guide f, while its rear end is suspended from fthe back b ofthe body. v
The deck-plank covers and protects the entire apparatus.
\Vhen the seat B is .required for use, the deck-plank is swung up, and the`back b swung back, so that it will draw the seat back with it.
.lhe front end of the seat is' Ygradually carried up on the inclined track, until it is finally brought into a horizontal iig. l.
The arms e, or their equivalents, strike a stop, g,
anl prevent the seat thereby'from being carried back further.
AThe back of the buggy will thus form the support ofthe y-seat,while thedeck-plank of the buggy constit-utes the hack of the seat. The last-named position is fuliy shown in tig. 1. The scat can he very conveniently folded in or out, and willin either position he retained, either by its own weight, or by thatplaced upon it, or Aby suitable catches,- as may be desired. v Byvapplying a portion of the deck-plank to the'seat, ample" knee-room is provided for persons occupying the SLlle.
Having thusdescrihed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1. The folding ily-seat, applied to the hinged back of-a buggy, or other vehicle, substantially as specified. 2. lhe deck-plank d, hinged tothe swinging back, for the purpose of constituting the back of the Hyseat, as set forth. Y 3. ,The inclined guide or rtrackf, arranged within" the body A, for the support of the front end of' Ithe {1y-seat, substantially as herein shown and described.
, THOMAS H.'WO0D. Witnesses:
