UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK A. GESKING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 REUBEN KROMER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MUSIC-LEAF TURNER.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, F REDERIOK A. Gus KING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in music leaf turners, and has for its object the provision of a device of this character of simple construction and efiicient in operation.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanyingdrawings forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a music leaf turner embodying my invention, Fig,
2, a partial side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3, a partialtop plan view of the same.
The preferred form of construction, as
illustrated in the drawings, comprises a frame made up of a center strip 1, two side wires 2 and a bottom piece 3, all secured together, as shown. Bottom piece 3 is in the form of an angle iron, and has one leg 4 extending horizontally to constitute a shelf for the support of music sheets. A post 5 is arranged centrally on shelf 1- and music leaf holders 6 are pivotally mounted on said post by means of straps or loops 6. Each of the music leaf holders 6 is substantially Ushaped in cross section to receive the edge of the music leaf or sheet and is provided in its upper end with a spring catch 7 adapted to retain a music leaf therein. At its bottom each of the holders 6 is provided with a radially extending arm 8 carrying a weight 9 at its outer end. A wire frame is hinged at 10 to the central portion of shelf 4 and is provided with a series of vertical guide rods 11, as shown. Blocks 12 are mounted to reciprocate vertically upon guide rods 11 and are connected with rods 8 by means of cords 13 which pass over guide rollers 14 in said frame, as shown. Finger pieces 15 are also mounted to reciprocate on guide rods 11 and are detachably connected with blocks 12 by spring catches 16. Each of the spring Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 4, 1912.
Patented Apr. 1, 1913.
Serial No. 681,356.
In use, the music leaves to be turned are secured in holders 6 and arranged in the usual manner for playing. IVhen it is desired to turn the first sheet, the finger piece 15 shown at the left of Fig. l, is depressed. Depression of this finger piece carries the corresponding block 12 and thus causes the corresponding cord 13 to operate the corresponding arm 8 to cause a partial rotation thereof. lVhen the arm and holder reach the medial position, the inclined surface 19 on the corresponding spring catch 16 engages bar 20 to release the corresponding block 12, so that as arm 8 swings past the medial position, block 12 is automatically released and the inertia of the corresponding weight 9 continues and completes the movement of the holder and leaf. When it is desired to turn the other sheet, the other finger piece is depressed and the same operation takes place. Springs 21 serve to return finger pieces 15 to their upper posit-ions, whereupon inclined surfaces 18 serve to cause reengagement of notches 17 with the corresponding blocks 12.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A music leaf turner comprising a frame; a leaf holder rotatably mounted on said frame; operating means connected with said holder to swing the same through a portion of its movement; and automatic means for disconnecting said operating means from said holder at the end of the operative movement of said operating means, substantially as described.
2. A music leaf turner comprising a frame; a leaf holder rotatably mounted on said frame; a radially extending arm on said holder; a weight at the outer end of said arm; operating means connected with said holder to swing the same through a portion only of its movement; and automatic means for disconnecting said operating means from said holder at the end of the operative movement of said operating means substantially as described.
3. A music leaf turner comprising a frame; a leaf holder rotatably mounted on said frame; a weight on said holder; a slidable block mounted on the frame; a flexible connection between said block and said holder; a finger piece detaehably connected with said block; and automatic means for disengaging said finger piece from said block at the end of the operative movement of said finger piece, substantially as described.
l. A music leaf turner comprising a frame; a leaf holder rotatably mounted on said frame; a radially extending arm on said holder; a weight at the outer end of said arm; a slidable block mounted on the frame; a flexible connection between said block and said holder; a finger piece detachably connected with said block; and automatic means for disengaging said. finger piece from said block at the end of the operative movement of said finger piece substantially as described.
5. A music leaf turner comprising a frame; a leaf holder rotatably mounted on said frame; a weight on said holder; a slidable block mounted to reciprocate in the central lower portion of said frame; a flexible operative connection between said block and said holder; a reciprocatory finger piece; a spring catch on said finger piece and detachably engaging said block; and a stationary stop arranged to disengage said spring catch from said block at the end of the operative movement of said finger piece substantially as described.
6. A music leaf turner comprising a frame; a leaf holder rotatably mounted on said frame; a radially extending arm on said holder; a weight at the outer end of said arm; a slidable block mounted to reciprocate in the central lower portion of said. frame; a flexible operative connection between said block and said holder; a reciprocatory finger piece; a spring catch on said finger piece and detachably engaging said block; and a stationary stop arranged to disengage said spring catch from said block at the end of the operative movement of said finger piece, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK A. GESKING.
