EDVIN J. KINS, OF IVIOUNDSVILLE, WEST VIRGINIA.
OVERSHOE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 3, 1912.
Serial No. 707,492.
To all Lo/wm it may concern.'
Be it known that I, EDWIN J. AKINS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Moundsville, county of Marshall, and State of Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overshoe-I-Iolders, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to overshoe attaching means, and it has for its chief object to provide a simple and efficient device whereby an overshoe may be firmly attached to the shoe of a wearer` and effectually prevented from pulling oil?.y
A further object is to provide a neat appearing device of the character mentioned which has no part permanently attached either to the shoe or to the overshoe, which is of strong and durable construction, which is adapted for application interchangeably to any of a plurality of shoes or overshoes that its owner may possess, and which does not injure or mar either the shoe or overshoe to which it is applied.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the features of construction, arrangement of parts and combinations of elements which will hereinafter be fully described, reference being had to the accomn panying drawings, forming a part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the iiivention applied, the overshoe being shown in longitudinal section; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, the overshoe being shown in transverse section; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the invention detached.
Referring to said drawings, in which like designating characters distinguish like parts throughout the several views-l indicates the opposite substantially parallel members of a substantially U-shaped clamp composed of sheet-metal, preferably spring steel, t d adapted to closely embrace the heel portion of a shoe-welt 2. Said members are inclined downward and each terminates in a horizontal line, as shown at 3, and has an inturned ledge or flange 4 which is adapted to seat in the ordinary groove 5 located between the welt 2 and the heel 6 of the shoe.
In applying the device to the shoe, the members l are spread apart slightly beyond their normal disposition and are then permitted to spring back into shoe-gripping position with the flanges 4 closely seating in the groove 5 whereby a secure hold is secured for positively preventing movement of the clamp in any direction other than in line with said groove.
Carried by, or formed integral with, the
Patented Mai'. 25, 1913.
clamp at its rearmost and uppermostpart is a. metal loop consisting of an upright member 7, which terminates at a suitable point in a return bend Q, and a return member 9 which lies substantially parallel to said member 7, said members 7 and 9 being adaptedUto receive therebetween the upper edge of the rear portion of an overshoe 10. Pivotally connected to the lower end of said member 9, which latter may be of any ap propriate length, is a dog 1l having teeth l2 which, in one position of the dog, are adapted to firmly engage, or bite into, the material of the overshoe, as. shown in Fig. l. Formed integral with said dog and arranged at a suitable angle thereto is a lever 13 by means of which the dog is rotated on the pivot pin 14.
As is obvious, since the clamp is shaped to conform to the shoe and lits snugly thereon, no hindrance is thereby presented to the application of the overshoe. The overshoe itself holds the clamp against movement, in the only direction in which it may move without the application of force, that is to say, against horizontal movement; and, when the dog is caused to1 assume gripping or binding engagement with the overshoe, the latter is electually held against displacement.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An overshoeholder comprising a spring-metal clamp adapted to fit over the rear part of a shoe above the heel, inturned horizontal flanges at the terminals of said clamp for seating in the groove between the heel and the welt, and overshoe engaging means carried by said clamp.
2. An overshoe holder comprising a spring-inetal clamp adapted to lit over the rear part of a shoe above the heel, inturned horizontal flanges at the terminals of said clamp for seating in the groove between the heel and the welt, and means carried by said clamp for gripping an overshoe.
3. An overshoe holder comprising a spring-metal clamp adapted to fit over the rear part of a shoe above the heel, inturned horizontal flanges at the terminals of said clamp for seating in the groove between the heel and the welt, and means carried by said clamp whereby an overshoe itted over the shoe is held in fixed position against said clamp.
4;. An overshoe holder comprising a spring-metal clamp adapted to lit over the rear part of a shoe above the heel, inturned horizontal flanges at the terminals of said clamp for seating in the groove between the heel and the weltJ and a pivoted dog adapted to assume gripping engagement with an overshoe applied to said shoe.
5. An overshoe holder comprising a spring-metal clamp adapted to fi't over the rear part of a shoe above the heel, inturned horizontal anges at the terminals of said clamp for seating in the groove between the heel and the welt, a met-al loop formed on said clamp for the reception of the upperl edge of an overshoe, and means carried by said loop for gripping an overshoefl 6. An ovei'shoe holder Comprising a spring-metal clamp adapted to lit over the rear part of' a shoe above the heel, inturned horizontal flanges at the terminals of saidl clamp for seating in the groove between the heel and the welt, a metal loop formed on said clamp for the reception of the upper edge of an overshoe, and a pivoted dog earried by said loop for elasping said overshoe in fixed relation to said clamp.
7. An overshoe holder comprising a spring-metal clamp adapted to t over the rear part of a shoe above the heel, inturned horizontal flanges at the terminals of said clamp for seating in the groove between A,the heel and the welt, a met-al loop formed on said clamp for the reception of the upper edge of an overshoe, and a pivoted dog oarried by said loop and adapted to exert a gripping pressure against an overshoe interposed between said dog and said clamp.
ln testimony whereof' l aliix my sionature in presence oil two subscribingwitnesses.
