AUTOMATIC OILING AND GREASING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WI LIAM B. DILLMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Oiling and Greasing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lubricators and its principal object is to provide an 1mproved form of lubricator especially adapted for use in connection with elevators and other machinery wherein any part moves or slides along a guide or rail.
WVith the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel features of construction and combinations of details hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views. and :--Figure 1, is a plan view of an elevator car and its shaft showing the device applied to both car and counter weight. Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the arrangement disclosed in Fig. 1. Fig. 3. is a plan view partly broken away of the oiler as arranged in connection with a wooden or other rectangular guide rail. Fig. 4-, is a section on the line 4l4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5, is a section on the line 55 of Fig. 4. Fig. 6, is a plan view of the form used in connection with a counter weight and its guide rail. Fig. 7, is a section on the line 77 of Fig. 6. Fig. 8, is a face view of the form shown in Figs. 6 and 7. Fig. 9, represents the arrangement used in connection with a T rail.
The invention comprises a casing 10 provided with a cover 11 hinged to the casing as at 12. This casing is mounted on a base 13 provided with slots 14 of inverted T-shape. Extendingthrough the wall of the casing is one or more cylinders 15 each having one end open and the other end provided with a cap 16 having a centrally disposed threaded opening wherein is an adjusting screw 17 the outer end of which is provided with a head 18. On this screw is also provided a lock nut 19. Within the cylinder is a plate 20 against which bears the inner end of the adjusting screw. toward one face of the guide rail 21 and slidably mounted in this end is a plunger 22 having a recess 23 in its inner end. In the recess 23 fits one end of a coil spring 24 the other end of which bears against the plate 20 so that by adjusting the screw 17 the tension of the spring may be regulated. Depending from the outer end of the plunger is a plate 24 having a head 25 slidably mounted in the slots 14. Extending through the outer end of the plunger is a pin 26 whereon are mounted rollers 27. In the form used in connection with an elevator car and illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 these rollers are plain cylinders, while in the form used in connection with counter weights and illustrated in Figs. 6 to 8 these rollers are provided with flanges 28 and are held on the pin by means of springs 29, washers 30 and cotters 31 being provided to keep the springs in place.
In Fig. 9, a modified form of flanged roller is shown which is provided with a recess 32 for the spring 29.
In Figs. 1 and 2 there is shown the application of the device, 32 being the elevator shaft, 33 the car and 34 the counter weights.
It is to be observed that the rollers project through a suitable opening 35 in the side of the casing and bear against the respective guides so that when the casing is filled with grease the rollers will carry it out to the guide as they rotate during the movement of the car or weights.
I claim 1. A lubricator comprising a casing provided with a side opening, a roller carrier slidably mounted in said casing opposite said opening, rollers on said carrier, and spring means urging said rollers outward through said opening, and other spring means urging said rollers toward each other.
2. In a lubricator, a casing having an opening in one side, a cylinder mounted in said casing and projecting therethrough, a plunger slidable in said cylinder, a spring in said cylinder urging said plunger outward, an rollers carried by said plunger and projecting through said opening and spring means, urging said rollers together.
3. In a lubricator, a casing having an opening in one side, a cylinder mounted in said casing and projecting therethrough, a
plunger slidable in said cylinder, a guide on the outer end of said plunger, a spring in said cylinder urging said plunger outward, and rollers carried by said plunger and projecting through said opening and spring means urging said rollers together.
4:. A lubricator, comprising a casing having an opening in one side, a cylinder projecting through the casing opposite said openin a roller carrying plunger slidably mounted within said cylinder, a spring in the cylinder adapted to urge the plunger outwardly through the opening, means for adjusting the tension of said spring, rollers mounted on said plunger and partially projecting through the said openings, and resilient means for urging said rollers together.
5. In a lubricator, a casing having an opening in'one side, and a slot in its bottom, a cylinder opposite said opening and projecting into said casing, a roller carrier slidably mounted within said cylinder, rollers mounted on said carrier, a plate dependingfrom said carrier having a head formed integral therewith said head being adapted to slide in the slot in the bottom of said casing and thereby form a support for the free end of said roller carrier and a spring within the said cylinder adapted to force the roller carrier outwardly and thereby keep the rollers constantly in contact with a track or guide rail.
6. A lubricator comprising a casing, having an opening in one side, a cylinder opposite the said opening, a roller carrier mounted within said cylinder, rollers mounted on said roller carrier, one of said rollers having a flange near its outer extremity and spring means to force the said flanged roller inwardly thereby holding the flange in engagement with a surface at right angles to the face of said roller.
