AUTOIIIATIC TRACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18, 1913.
Application filed September 10, 1910. Serial No. 581,344.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, PAUL PoLNIsoH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Automatic Track, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to conveyers and the object. of my improvements is an automatic track for removing crates carrying bottles from the platforms of a bottle cleaning machine, and particularly adapted for use in connection with my machines described and illustrated in the United States Letters Pat-- out, No. 9l-l,'l99 and dated Dec. 23, 1909, and in my application for Letters Patentfiled Jan. 24, 1910, Ser. No. 539,852 and since issued as Patent No. 1,012,170.
lVith these and otl1er objects in view, my invention consists of the construction, combination and the arrangement of parts as will he hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that changes in form, size, shape and other minor details may be made within the scope of my claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1, is a side elevation of my track in connection with the machine, described and illustrated in the application for Letters Patent, filed Jan. 2st, 1910, Ser. No. 539,852; Fig. 2, is a rear elevation of the track along the line a::c of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, is a front elevation of a crate in connection therewith. Fig. & is a side elevation of the machine shown partly in cross section, and Fig. is a fragmentary rear elevation thereof.
Similar figures refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A pedestal 1, is provided with a socket 2. In the socket 2, is mounted a plunger On the plunger 3 is pivoted a central leg at of a span 5 by a pin 0. The span 5 is provided with vertical arms 7, 7 at equal distances from the leg 1. On a pedestal 8 is fixedly 'ported by the base 38.
mounted a leg 9 of a span 10 provided with a pair of arms as 12, similar to the arms of the span 5.
A bar 23 is pivoted on each of the rails by a pin 21. On the pedestal 1 is mounted a bracket 17. On the bracket 17 are piv oted the levers 18, 18 by pins 19, 19. Each lever is provided with an arm 22 pivotally connected with one of the bars 23, and with an arm 21 having a recess 25, which forms a seat for the horizontal rod 27. On the rod 27 is pivoted an arm 28 of a lever 29 which has also an arm 30 carrying a weight 31. The lever 29 has its fulcrum 33 on a bracket 36 mounted on a chest 37 above a base 38.
On a shaft 39 is revolubly mounted a sleeve 10. The shaft 39 is vertically sup- On the sleeve 10 is slidably mounted a sleeve 31. On the sleeve 31 is pivoted a lever at 109 which is pivotally connected with the arm 28 of the lever 29 and with the arm 21 of the lever 13 by the rod 27.
On the sleeve 10, above the sleeve 34, is slidingly keyed a sleeve all, by key 100, to rotate with the sleeve 40 and to slide with the sleeve 31. The sleeve 3st is provided with a horizontal platform 42. The sleeve 41 is provided with a hub 101 carrying horizontal plat-forms 43 parallel with the platform 42 and adapted to pass between the track rails 13. .On the sleeve 41, above the hub 101 is movably mounted a threaded sleeve 102. The threaded sleeve 102 is engaged with a threaded collar 103 which supports a platform 10 t. 0n the post 39 is stidingly mounted a collar 106 by a key 107. The collar 106 is rigidly connected with the collar 103 by an arm 105, and has a lever 108 pivotally connecting it with the platform 1.04;.
On the sleeve l0 is mounted a gear 4 iprovided with a number of groups of teeth corresponding with the number of platforms around the sleeve ll. Meshing with the gear as is a gear it) provided with a single group of teeth arranged to be successively engaged with a group of teeth of the gear let. l l hen the teeth of said gears are engaged the sleeve ll is rotated by the sleeve 40, and the platforms l3 revolve past the platform 42 and the track 20. When said teeth are disengaged one of the platforms of the sleeve (t1 is directly above the track in a position to pass between the rails 13. The gear L3 is mounted on ashaft f6 carrying a spur gear at? and a crank 48. The gear ll meshes with a pinion d9 mount ed on a shaft 50. The shaft 50 carries a spur gear 51, which meshes with a pinion mounted on a power shaft 53 which is driven by the pulleys The crank a8 carries a pin 55 which travels over the inner surface of a slotted bar 56. The slot of the bar 56 consists of two vertical oppositely disposed curved sections, each of a radius equal to the distance of the center of the pin 55 from. the axis of the shaft 46 plus the radius of the pin. The pin can therefore roll over said sections of the slotted bar without transmitting any motion thereto. On the right and leftof said curved sections are horizontal sections for the pin to roll over and to cause the bar 56 to recipro cate in a vertical plane. The bar 56 is pivotally connected with the arm 35, as at 57, and is constrained to move in a vertical plane by a bar 63 slidingly supported in a guide (3-1 of a bracket 65.
Assume that the pulleys 5st revolve in the direction of the arrow. The pinion 52 mounted on the shaft which is driven by the pulleys, transmits its motion to the shaft 50 by means of the gear 51. The pinion l9 of the shaft- 50, meshing with the gear 47, transmits its motion to the shaft 46. The gear 45, mounted on the shaft d6, meshing with the gear t l transmits its motion to the sleeve 10. The crank 48, mounted on the shaft tti, transmits its motion to the slotted bar 56 by means of the pin 55. The relative positions of the teeth of the gear 45 and of the pin of the cran 4:8 is such that, when the teeth of the gear -15 are engaged with a group of teeth of the gear t l, the pin is caused to travel in the slotted bar to the right along its upwardly curving section, and when said teeth are disengaged the pin first travels through the masses right handed horizontal section and causes the bar to descend. it then travels along the downwardly curving sections causing the bar to remain stationary and finally along the left handed horizontal sect-ion causing the bar to ascend.
When the bar 56 is caused to ascend, the arm transmits its motion to the sleeve and to the lovers 18, causing the sleeve to slide upwardly and the levers to swing with the arms 22 downwardly. The upward movement of the sleeve 3 f forces the sleeve ll to slide upwardly on the sleeve 40 and to carry its platforms vertically away from the track 20; the track is, at the same time, caused to swing in the opposite direction by the bars 28 which connect the arms 22 of the levers 18 with the track rails 13. l l hen the bar 56 is at the end of its upward stroke, the platforms d3 are clear above the track and are free to be revolved past the track by the sleeve -11, which is rotated by the sleeve it) when the teeth of the gear t l; are engaged with those of the gear Every time the teeth of the gears become disengaged one of the platforms is always above the track in a position to pass between the track rails. lVhen the bar 56 is' caused to descend, the arm 35 causes the sleeve 3-1- to slide downwardly on the sleeve 41-0, and this is followed by the sleeve d1 which causes the platform to descend. The arm also causes the levers 1.8 to swing, with the arms 92 upwardly, and the bars 23 cause the track to become elevated. The platform above the track is thus made to pass between the track rails. The platform 43 carries a crate of bottles 58, which crate consists ofa base 59, coincident with the platform, of vertical posts 61, and of a top frame 59, which is joined with the frame 59 by the posts 61. The frame 59' is provided with flanges 60 adapted to overlap the track rails 18. As the track rails are swung uynvardly and the crate carrying platform is moved downwardly between them, the ends of the rails meet with the flanges of the crate, and the crate is lifted off the platform and is tilted on the track, along which it slides until it is stopped by the terminals 26.
Having thus described this inventioinwhat I new claim as new and desire to protectby l.etters Patent, is-
