Be it known that I, WiLLrAM ROWLAND HARVEY, a Subj ect of the King of Great Britain, and residing at New Brighton, Cheshire county, England, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Advertisement-Displaying echanism for Cash-Registers or Tills, of which the following is aspeciiication.

This invention relates to mechanismfor displaying advertisements in cash registers or tills.

According to my invention, advertisement carrying tablets which are adapted to be pendulously supported in the apparat-userid arranged in a series at the base, are raised one at a time to a displaying aperture in the front of the apparatus, from one end of the series, and lowered in a similar manner to the other end of the series by means of reciprocating carriers or frames, the tablet about to be displayed being raised by means of one carrier and the one last displayed being lowered by means of the other carrier simultaneously each time the till is opened or closed. The carrier or frame for raising the tablet to be exposed deposits the latter upon a rest opposite to the displaying aperture and the carrier or frame for low* ering the tablet slightly raises the latter from its rest during its upward movement p and then lowers it to the level of the series in the base.A Means are provided for illuminating the advertisement being displayed while the cash dra-wer or till is open.

In the drawing, Figure 1 represents the improved mechanism in front elevation. Fig. 2 represents the said mechanism in lo-ngitudinal sectional elevation. Fig. 3 represents an 'elevation of the advertisement tablet; Fig. 4 an end view of the same; Fie. 5 a frontview of one upper end of the tablet lowering carrier; Fig. 6 a side view of a 4portion of one of the slideways tor the front tablet carrier or rame showing the said frame in its lowest position; Fig?? a similar view ot one of the slideways for the rear carrier showing the latter also in its lowest position, and Fig. 8 one haiie of the rear carrier in elevation.

however, being blunt. The sides of the pathway are represented by 5, 6, and 7 and the apex by 8.

The triangular' pathway is practically a. grooved one, and the sides 5 and 6 are continued below the base 7 the inner track portion of the pathway being' defined by the raised center parts 9 and 10. Above the pathways is mounted a sha-tt 12 carrying rollers 13 near to the ends. Over these rollers are passed straps 141 Awhich may be of thin Inet-al, the two ends of the straps being liXed to the carriers for raising and lowering the tablets. The carriers are represented by 15 and 16, and consist preferably of frames having two .vertical sides and cross bars 15 and 16a, respectively, the cross bar 15a being at the bottom in the carrier 15, and the cross bar 16 between the top and bottom ends in the carrier 16. The carriers lie and slide against the raised center parts 9 and 10.

rThe raised part 9 between the sides 5 and 6 of the pathway and the straps 111 form grooves in which engage the endsi of' the tablets 1T. The latter are illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, Fig. v3 being a front elevation and Fig. 4 an end view. Thetablets are provided with ngers 17 which engage in the grooves of the pathways and by which the tablets are pendulously supported. The carriers are shown in their intermediate or half-way position in Figs. 1 and 2. At the apex of each pathway a notch or recess is formed by the stop 18, see also Fig. 5, and the incline 19. The carrier 15 has at each side a side extension 20, Figs. 1, 2 and 5', 'for the purpose hereinafter stated,also a projection such as 21, Figs. 1 and 2, is fixed to the member 10 in line with the base part 7 ot the'pathway. lThe carriers may be actuated in any suitable way. 1n the drawing acash drawer or till p is indicated and connected to this is shown a chain or cord 22 which passes around a pulley Q3 and is connected at its other end to the carrier 15 at 24. By this arrangement, when the till is drawn out the carrier 15 is lowered. The carrier 16 is also connected at Q6 to a chain or cord 25 which passes around the pulley 27 and is connected to a roller 28. The latter has a torsion spring 28 by which it is normally wound up, the spring being sufficiently strong to raise the carrier 15 to its highest posit-ion, and it required to pull in the drawer p.

lamp represented by 33, is secured in a bracket 3l., and in the circuit 35 is a switch :lo normally open. The switch lies in the path ot the carrier l5 so Vthat when the latter is in its lowest position it has closed the switch. rlhe switch may obviously be actuated by the carrier 16 in-a similar manner.

The front l ot the apparatus is preferably made to open so as to enable the tablets to be easily removed and replaced` lt is obvious that the pushing in of the cash drawer may wind up the spring or a separate lever or handle may be used to etiect the operation and the movement of the handle may release the drawer when such is used.
