Patented Mar. i8, 1931.3.
.fspplicaton led Eday i3, 191i). Serial No. 561,243.
- To @El wim/m, t may concern:
Be it 'known that l, VALDEMARUDE, a
citizen or the United States, and resident ot' St. Eouis, Missouri, have invented a new and useful Cigar-Ligh'ter, ofvvhich the tollovving is a speciiication.
This invention relates to cigar lighters and similar devices, and it has tor its object to provide an improved device for lighting cigars and'for like purposes.
The device may be used for various purposes than as specihcally named, and there are other objects to be attained, all of which will become apparent from the following specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawings in Which- .ll`i, ;ure l 'is a vertical sectional view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan v i'eiv, partially in section.
The base l supports a vessel 2 provided with a removable top 3. The vessel 2 contains another removable vessel 4 containing some inflammable liquid, such, for instance,
vas' alcohol, said vessel being held in place by a diaphragm 5 near its upper end, and being seatedin a recess or depression in the base l.
This arinnge-inent securely holds the vessel 4f 4and prevents it from slipping from its proper position and adjustment on the base.
Tufo wires 6 extend through a hole in the base andnieconnected respectively to two posts?. @ne o the wires leads to a tube 8 extending through `the top and into the in'- iiammable liquid in the vessel 1l. The other Wire has a 'spring terminal 9 extending through slot l0 in the tube 8. The terminal 9 is inunted on e. rod l1. y
l2 indica-tesa torch or ignition member which extends into the tube 8 and into the liquid therein. Annet-allie ferrule on the inner Aend ot said ignition member constitutes means 'tor connection betteen the terminal 10 andthe tube 8 When .the torch 4is withdrawn. lin this movement of the torch the circuit is completed through the elect-ric "wires, and the inflammable substance becomes ignited,- producing a lia-me, which may be used to light cigars, or for other purposes. l. ain-'aware that there may be variations andv alterations inV the construction and arrangement of tliefparts Wbihout departure from 'the spirit and scope of the invention. l do not restrict myself to identical features, but
Vv' hat l claim and desire to secure by Let- 55 ters Patent isf' 1. A device of the character described, comprising a base having a recess therein,.a casing attached to said base and encircling said recess, a horizontal partition attached to said casing above said base, said partition having a hole therein, a fuel holder seated in said recess in said base and eX- tending through the hole in said partition, a
`top attached to said first-named vessel, and
a tube carried by said top and extending downwardly into said fuel holder, substantially as specified.
A device of the character described, comprising a base, a casing attached to said base, a top on said casing, a fuel container resting upon said base, means for prevent ing said fuel container from being moved laterally 4from its position on said base, a tube extending through said top on said casing and extending downwardly into said fuel container, and a toch supported Within saidv tube and projecting below the same vint-o said fuel container", substantially as specified. A 3. A device of the character described, comprising a base having a recessor depression in its upper side, -a fuel container seated in said recess or depression, a casing attached to said base around said vessel, a horizontal. partition in said casing having a hole through which said fuel container eX- tends, a top. removably secured to said casing, a tube carried by and extending throughsaid top and extending into said fuel container, a torch mounted in said tube and extending into said fuel container, and ignition means whereby said torch may beignited as it is withdrawn from said tube, subst antially as specified. 95
In testimony whereof l have signed this specification this 9th day ot August, 1909, in the presence ot tivo witnesses.
