LEVELING ATTACHMENT FOR SEPARATORS.
Application filed March 1S, 1912.
To all 207mm, it may concern.'
Be it known that GEORGE F. SoHUn'r'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bellingham, in the county of Lac qui Parle and State oi' Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Leveling attachments for Separatore; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to separators and more particularly to a. leveling attachment therefor.
An object ot' the invention is to provide an attachment for a separator whereby the latter may be readily leveled when upon uneven ground or other surface.
Another object is to provide a leveling attachment ot this character which may be readily and cheaply positioned upon separators of the ordinary type.
Another object is to provide a leveling` attachment of this nature which may be employed to raise or lower either side of the separator to level the latter.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter set Jforth and pointed out in the speciiication and claim.
ln the drawings which form a part of this application, Figure 1 is a vertical cross sectional view through the attachment as applied to the rear axle and traine of a separator. F ig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view oit one end of the rear axle, showing the leveling attachment connected therewith. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. a is a fragmentary view of the front portion of the separator, showing the king bolt upon which the separator frame will be tilted to level the latter, and, Fig. 5 is a side view of the upper portion of the leveling attachment. Y
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, l represents the frame of the separator, to the opposite sides of which are secured the lower ends of the parallel upwardly extending posts 2, the posts being placed in pairs upon opposite sides of the separator near the rear end of the latter directly above the opposite ends of t-he rear axle 3. The pairs of posts 2 upon the op- Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18,1913.
serial No. 684,228.
posit-e sides of the separator frame 1 are connected at. their upper ends by the cross piece l and at their central portions by the parallel spaced cross braces 5.
Positioned through the outer ends of the cross piece 4 and through the parallel spaced cross braces 5 connecting the parallell post-s upon the opposite sides of the frame 1, are the rods 6 having wheels or the like 7 upon their upper ends while their lower portions 8, below the braces 5 are threaded. The rods 6 carry the nuts 9 rigidly positioned about midway the length ot' the rodsv 6 and between the parallel cross braces 5 to prevent vertical movement of the rods 6.
The threaded lower ends 8 of the rods 6 are engaged within the vertical threaded openings l0 of the socketposts 11 which have their lower ends bifurcated, to form the fingers 1Q, which are pivoted to opposite sides of the axle 3 by means of the pivot pins 13, slightly inwardly of the spindles 14C for supporting the rear wheels 15.
The rear axle 3 carries the short vertical guide members 16, which are substantially U-shaped in cross section, upon the opposite sides of said axle slightly inwardly of the fingers 13. The guide members 16 are adapted for engagement against and around the vertical edges of the locks 17 which are secured against the under face of the frame l and are braced by means of the integral brace blocks 18. It will be understood that the guide members 16 are pivoted to the opposite sides of the rear axle 3, near the opposite ends of the latter by means of the pivot pin 19 positioned through slots 19a formed in said axle.
It will be readily seen that by turning the wheel 7 the rods 6 may be rot-ated to move the socket posts 11 upwardly or downwardly as required to vary t-he height of either side of the separator frame 1 to level the latter. lt will be evident that the frame 1 may be tilted in any direction desired upon the king bolt 20 in the front portion of the frame 1. lt will therefore be seen that I have provided a leveling attachment which may be readily applied to separator frames and the like to properly tilt the same to level the :trame and thus enable the separator to operate more perfectly and give better results, the attachment being of special advantage when it is necessary to operate the separator upon uneven ground or other surface. It
will also he evident that the ettaehrnent may braces, means to prevent longitudinal movehe controlled by the operator upon the sepa ritter.
1What I claim is :-n Y
The combination with L frame and axle; of posts secured to the treme9 said posts loeing arranged in pairs on opposite sides of the teme, e connection between the upper ends of the pairs of posts, Cross braces eonnesting the Central portions ont the posts ot @eeh pair, a socket pest pivoted to the axle at euch end of the letter, eontrolling rods positioned through the connection between the pairs of posts and through the Cross ment of seid controlling rods within seid Cross braces, the lower ends of the rods being threaded and engaged in the socket posts for raising end lowering` the letter upon rotation of the rods, and guiding means for the axle.
ln testimony whereof I have signed my neme to this speeiioetion in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
