UNITED STATES IETENT OFFICE.
VARIDRY MGBEE THRELKELD, OF C'LARKSVILLE, ARKANSAS.
BLOCK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VARDRY M. THREL- nnLn, citizen of the United States, residing at Clarksville, in the county of Johnson and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blocks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to building blocks, and has for its object the construction of a substantial fire-proof block.
Another object of this invention is to produce a light and strong building block.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the block. Fig. 2 is a section through the side walls. Fig. 3 is a diagrammatical view, showing the block in use. Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the metallic sheet in place on the wall and it also removed.
This block is made up of a supporting member 10, which has extending upon each side, corrugated side walls 11. Spanning the ends of the corrugated side walls 11 are protector plates 12, which are provided with downwardly bent corners 13. The protector plates 12 are held in position by the rods 14, which engage the supporting member 10. The corrugated side walls 11 are also held in position by the rods 14. These rods 14 are placed on the opposite side in the valley portion 15 of the side walls 11. By this arrangement the rods 14 hold the corrugated side walls 11 in a centered position, thereby making it impossible to move the side wall 11 in any direction, as the position of the rods 14 in the valley portion 15 prevents any longitudinal movement, and since the rods are placed alternately on the opposite sides of the walls 11, the walls will be held againstlateral movement. The downwardly bent corners 13 of the protector plates 12 help to Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 20, 1912.
Serial No. 704,825.
keep the corrugated side walls in position, and also keep the corrugated side walls 11 from straightening out, that is by pressing down on the side wall 11, in this position, the walls 11 will be prevented from flattening out, which would finally mean the loosening of the corrugated side walls 11 from the supporting member 10.
In the foregoing description it will be seen that the construction is a light building block and also a strong fire-proof structure, which comprises corrugated side walls 11, the protector plates 12, and the rods 14, which will prevent heat from getting to the one wooden part 10.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A building block of the class described, comprising a supporting member, a plurality of corrugated side walls, protector end plates spanning the ends of said walls. and reinforcing rods engaging said supporting member and said end plates, and extend ing upon opposite sides of said side walls, and constituting a centering means thereof.
2. A building block of the class described, comprising a supporting member, a plurality of corrugated metallic side walls, end plates spanning said side walls, said side walls extending upon each side of said supporting member, rods extending transversely of said side walls and alternately extending upon opposite sides of said side walls, and being placed in the valley portion of said corrugation for constituting means for holding said side walls in engagement with said supporting member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VARDRY MoBEE THRELKELD.
