.Be it known that I, JACOB DOLL, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan,- county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in String-Plates for Upright- Pianos, or" which the 'following is a specification:

This invention relates to an vimproved string-plate for upright pianos.

it is customary with piano manufacturers to supply customers who order a large number of pianos, with string-plates in which the name of the customer is cast into the upper right-hand corner of the string-plate above the tuning-pins for the treble and middle strings of the piano. This practice. however, requires the casting ot a special string-plate for each customer.

The object of this invent-ion is to so construct the string-plates that they can be used easily and Vat little expense for diiierentcustomers without casting a. special string-plate for eac-h one ot them; and for this purpose the invention consists of a stringplate for upright pianos which is provided at the upper corner abo-ve the treble and middle strings with an interchangeable naine-plate. and with means for covering the edges oi' the naine-plate. as will be fully described hereinafter and nallyY pointed out in the claims.

and middle strings is cut oit, the cut-ott" portion being curved or tapering from the corner toward the middle upper portion of the string-plate, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l, so as to form a recess for an interchangeable name-plate 1S which corresponds to the shapeof the recess formed at the upper portion of the string-plate.
