Patented Mar. 4, `1913 .To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDMUND C. MORGAN, a citizen of the .United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook an' tate of Illinois, have invented a new and @ful Improvement in Apparatus for Utilizing Coke-Oven Heat. of which the following is a specicution. Y
Myinvention relates to improvement in apparatus for utilizing coke oven heat and .the object of my improvement is to utilize the heat which now goes to waste in the' manufacture ot' colte in beebive and other types of -ovens producing coke by the same Yprocess .as the beehive type of oven. I attainthese Vobjects by the mechanism illustrated in -the accompanying drawings, of Which,`-
Figure l is a vertical section ofl'the apparatus :and also shows the outline of the upper art ot a beehive oven. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the apparatus showing application to'ftwo beehive colte ovens.
Similar', letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Mounted `on the oven Wall by means of suitable standards (A) are suitable steam, tight pipes (l), one placed above the other, jA and to which are connected at right angles the short' closed end pipes (C). The passageways in the short pipes communicate with the passageways of the pipes (Bn). The Apassagevvays in the pi es (C) may be closed bymeans of the valves (D).
Molvably mountedabove the ovens on a standard or track (F), or other suitable means',` is a suitable steam generator (E) which is pivotally connected tothe short pipes (C) by means of the arms (Gr), the ends of which are provided With suitableground joints-Which are detachably held in position in a suitable bearing in the short I pipes by 'means of the nuts (II). The
steam passageway/S, of the* steam generator (Elm-e connected to the passageways of the short pipes (C) .by 1 means of suitableassageways through the arms (G).
he .steam generator (E) being pivotally mounted as. described is arranged so that at one point in its'movement around the -piyot it' will stand centrally Vover the gpemngimthetopofthe oven, .and at an- Other-:iaoiut in its movement around the will be entirel-yclearof the opening .those skilled in the art.
,29net..theoremsdthat ,the Charging heretofore. Mounted on the lower end of the stream generator (E) and made vertically addustot the ovens may be carried on the same as 'able thereto byineans of lever I) is a ring 6o (J preferably made of tire brick or some other heat resisting material, lthe inside .of c
` closed, so as to forni a continuous. Hue from the inside of the oven to the `topof the steam generator (E). s
By the construction shown, the ste'am generated by the heat from one or more ovens can le carried to' any desired point. by means of the pipes (B) by methods Well known to There ja number of generators are connected together in one line, in case it is necessary to repair an oven, so or to repair a generator, or to remove a generat-or entirely and install anew one, it may be done Without interruption of the other steam generators in the plant.
