Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALFRED L. COOPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Odessa, in the county of Lafayette and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cable-Hangers; and I dodeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to cable hangers and more particularly to a device for hanging telephone wire cables from messenger or supporting cables, the object of the invention being to provide a hanger which may be easily and quickly applied to or removed from a cable and messenger, which may be moved along the messenger when it is desired to move the cable, and which will not catch sagging wires. It is also an object of the invention to provide the improved details of structure hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view of a hanger constructed according to my invention, shown in operative relation to a messenger and cable. Fig. II is a detail view of the hanger. Fig. III is a view showing the hanger suspended on the messenger before clamping, and with a knot formed in the cord. Fig. IV is an end view of the hook.

Referring more in detail to the parts :'-1 designates a cable and 2 a messenger, of ordinary construction.

3 designates the hanger hook, which is preferably formed of galvanized wire, having an eye 4 in one end and a loop 5 adjacent to the eye. The lower end of the wire is extended below the loop and eye to provide a side opening 6 for receiving the messenger, and the tip of the wire is bent back to form a substantially U-shaped loop 7 for receiving the cord or marline. The free end 8 of the loop member is preferably turned into narrow the entrance to the loop and the body, 9, of the wire is preferably inclined inwardly to bring the eye 4: and the loop 7 into substantially vertical alinement when the hanger is in place.

11 designates the cord or marline, which is run through the eye 4 and is knotted on the cable when the latter is to be suspended.

A complete hanger comprises both the hook and marline, the latter being run through the eye of the hook and furnished the lineman in assembled condition.

In using the device, the lineman ties the cord or marline on the cable by passing the book through both of the free end loops 12 and moves the hook laterally toward the messenger so that the messenger may enter through the side opening 6; the weight of the cable pulling downwardly on the hanger and springing the sides of the upper loop so that the messenger may seat in the upper end, as illustrated in Figs. I and III. The cord or marline is then moved laterally and projected into the lower loop 7 so as to tie the lower end of the hook to the cord and close the hook to prevent its escape from the messenger. It is apparent that with this mounting the wire may be bent to close the loop 7 and permanently lock the parts in assembled position, or the loop may be left open so that the marline may be more easily removed when desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is A cable hanger comprising a body having a hanger loop and eye at one end and a backwardly opening anchor loop at the other end, the anchor loop being projected beneath the hanger loop and spaced from the eye, and a marline carried by the eye and adapted for engagement by the anchor loop to close the hanger loop, substantially as set forth. 7
