Description

R. H. MITCHELL. DRAINAGE FITTING. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 19, 1909.
Patented Feb. 25, 1913.
FIGI.
s o E% a N w T I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RAYMOND H. MITCHELL, OF ROYERSFORD, PENNSYLVANIA.
DRAINAGE-FITTING.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAYMOND I-I. Mrron- ELL, of Royerst'orrhin the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Drainage-Fittings, whereof the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawmg.
My invention relates to fittings of the type known as closet connections and has for its object to provide a single, fitting in lieu of the ordinary lead bend, brass ferrule, brass floor plate and solder ordinarily employed.
As hereinafter described my im roved fitting includes cylindrical termi'n. s in unitary relation and having their axes at right angles to each other. One of said terminals being longer than the other is disposed horizontally in connection with the vertical riser with respect to which it is adjustable rotarily. Two screw threaded apertures are provided in the side of said horizontal memher having their axes at right angles to the axis of said member, so that their axes may be inclined with respect to a horizontal plane by the rotary adjustment of said horizontal member, so that the drain pipes leading respectively from a stationary washstand and bathtub may be connected with said apertures in adjustable angular relation. The vertical terminal of said fitting is adjustable-in the direction of its length and angularly in a floor plate which is so cmistructed and arranged that it may be set horizontally regardless of the angular position of said vertical terminal, and be jointed in watertight,,relation therewith.
My invention includes the various novel features of construction and arrangement hereinafter more definitely specified.
In the drawing; Figures I and II respectively show in plan and side elevation a fitting embodying my invention. Fig. III, sectional view, of said fitting, taken on the line III, III in Fig. II, indicating the rotary connection of the horizontal terminal of said fitting with respect to an outlet member, whereby the angular position of the axes of the side apertures in said fitting is adjustably determined. Fig. IV, is a sectional view, showing the fitting above de scribed and an inlet member permitting angular and other adjustment of said fittin The fitting shown in Figs. I and II, is a single cast metal tube comprising the horizontal and vertical cylindrical terminals 1 Specification of Letters Patent.

and 2 with their axes extending at right angles to each other, and said horizontal terminal includes two screw threaded apertures 3 and 4, having their axes extending at right angles to the axis of said terminal-1.
As indicated in Fig. III, the fitting above described is rotarily adjustable upon the axis of its terminal 1, in connection with the outlet member 6 so as to present said apertures 3 and 4 with their axes at the desired angle to receive the outlet pipes 8 and 9 respectively extending from a stationary Washstand and bath tub. Of course, as indicated in Fig. III, such rotary adjustment of said fitting upon the axis of its terminal 1, causes a corresponding divergence of the axis of the terminal 2 from the vertical position. However, as indicated in Fig. IV, said terminal 2 may be readily connected in water tight relation with the vertical member 11 by means of the inlet member 12 having the flange 13 fitted upon the floor 14 in horizontal position, and having its vertical cylindrical wall 15 provided at its lower end with the annular flange '16 to retain the packing 17 inserted between said wall 15 and said terminal 2.
It may be observed that the fitting above described is advantageous as compared with the ordinary commercial lead bend and its appurtenances, in that such a bend must be modified in shape in each case with'considcrable expenditure of time and labor to conform. to the precise location of the closet, the outlet riser and the washstand andbath tub outlets which are different in each case, whereas, my improved fitting is adapted to instantly fulfil the various conditions of angular and other adjustments required in each case without any modification of its commercial form, so that it may be installed with much less expenditure of time and labor, than the ordinary lead bend connection above contemplated.
I do not desire to limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement of my invention above described as it is obvious that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the essential features of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim I. In a water closet fitting, the combination with a circular inlet member including a cylindrical wall and an annular flange extending transversely with respect to its form diameter axis, and a cylindrical outlet member; said members having their axes Vertical; of a water closet bend comprising a single cast metal tube of circular cross section, of unit'rom end to end thereof, the axes of its opposite ends being at right angles to each other; and, having two screw threaded apertures with ing at right angles to the axes of both of said ends; the axes of. said apertures intersectinggthe axis of one of said ends; said tube being; adjustable rotarily and in, the direction of its length in connection with said outlet member; and, being adjustable rotarily, in the direction of its length, and angularlr with respect to said inlet memben 2. Ina water closet fitting, the combination with a circular inlet member having a cylindrical wall and an annular flange extending transversely rith respect to its axis; of a cylindrical outlet member; said members having; their a xes parallel; a water their axes extendi l l l l l l l l i l l l apertures upon the same side closet. bend comprising a single cast metal tube of eircular cross. section, of uniform diameter from end-to end thereof, the axes of its opposite ends being at right angles to each other; and, having two screw threaded thereof, with their axes parallel, extending at right angles to the axes of both of: said ends; the axes of said apertures intersecting the axis of one of said ends; said tube being adjustable rotarily and in the direction of its length in c-smneetion with said out'let member; and, being adjustable rotarily, in of its length. and angularly with respect to said inlet member.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name at, Lintield, Pennsylvania, this 29th day of May 1909.;
RAYMOND H. MITCHELL.
