T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER Encuxn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets, of which the following is a specification. A
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bracelets, and pertains more particularly to bracelets of the hinged type.
The primary object of the invention is to provide novel and improved means whereby the guard is connected at its ends to the bracelet wings, in such manner as to allow the guard to freely give to the movements of the wings without cramping the same, and further to provide an improved form of guard and connections between the same and the bracelet wings whereby the parts may be assembled with great expedition and facility.
In the drawings; Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bracelet constructed in accordance with the present invention, and shown in open position. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the parts in locked position. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the guard in side elevation. Fig. 5 is a detail view of one end of the guard and the cap which receives same, showing the manner in which the guard is placed in the cap, and Fig. 6 is a similar view illustrating the manner in which the opposite end of the guard is placed in the cap of the other bracelet wing.
The bracelet is composed of two wings 1 and 2, connected by a hinge joint 8. In proceeding according to the present invention, a cap 4 is soldered in the free end of wing 1, and has its front face formed with a rectangular slot 5. The guard 6 which is flexible has one end enlarged to form a head 7 which is rounded and which is capable of being introduced into the slot 5 as depicted in Fig. 5 of the drawings, in which one end of the head is placed in slot 5 whereupon the head is moved downwardly to cause the opposite end of the head to enter the slot, and upon bringing the head to a position in which the guard is at right angles to the front face of the cap 4, the ends of the head will engage with the rear side of said front face adjacent the ends of the slot 5 and prevent outward movement thereof. The cap 8 which is carried by the free end of wing 2 is provided with a rectangular slot S) in its front face, and after the guard has been secured to the rap 4!.- in a manner just described, the right-angular end or stop 10 which is formed on the opposite end of the guard 6 is then placed in slot 9 and the cap 8 is moved to a position in which the stop will engage with the rear side of the front face of cap 8, as depicted in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The U-shaped latch has its arms formed with catches 11, and one of the arms has a stop 12 which is slightly spaced from the stop 10 of the guard, the stop 12 engaging stop 10 and preventing inward movement thereof. The usual finger piece 13 is carried by one of the catch arms to permit operation thereof. lVing 1 is cut-away at 14 to receive the finger piece 13, when the wings are in locked position.
From the above it will be apparent that the end of the flexible guard which carries head 7 has movement lengthwise of the slot 5, and slight lateral movement with respect thereto, and the opposite end of the guard which bears stop 10 has slight in and out movement, and further movement lengthwise of the slot 9, providing a flexible connection between the guard and the bracelet wings.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcnt:-
1. In a hinged bracelet, a cap at the free end of each wing, each cap having its front face formed with a rectangular slot, a guard, said guard having a head on one end, the sides of which head project beyond the sides of the guard and which has the outer end or face of its head curved in outline and formed so as to be capable of being passed through the slot of one of the caps and to engage the rear of the latter after the guard has been secured to one wing of the bracelet, and a right angular stop on the other end of the guard for insertion through the slot of the other cap, prior to the latter being secured to the other bracelet wing.
2. In a hinged bracelet, a slotted cap secured to the free end of each wing of the bracelet, a guard having a head on one end which projects through the slot of one cap and engages the latter when the bracelet is in extreme open position, a stop on the other end of the guard which stop extends through the slot of the other cap, and a catch member carried by the last named cap and formed with a stop to engage the guard stop to restrict inward movement of the guard with relation to the last named cap.
3. In a hinged bracelet, a slotted cap secured to the free end of each Wing of the bracelet, a guard which has its respective end portions extending through the slots of the caps and having a head on one end which engages one cap when the bracelet is in extreme open position, a stop on the other end of the guard which stop engages the other cap and has its outward movement restricted by the latter, and a stop disposed to the rear of the guard stop to engage the latter to restrict inward movement of the guard stop.
4:. In a hinged bracelet, a slotted cap secured to the free end of each wing of the bracelet, a guard which has its respective end portions extending through the slots of the caps and having a head on one end which engages one cap when-the bracelet is in extreme open position, a stop on'the other end of the guard which stop engages the other cap and has its outward movement restricted by the latter, a U-shaped catch mem ber having catches on its free end which extend through the slot of the last named cap on opposite sides of the last namedend of the guard, and a stop on one leg of the catch member for engagement with the guard stop.
