ORRIN WEIDRICH, OF HAMILTON, ONTARIO. CAilADAt SLIIDING-DOOR HANGER AND TRACK.
Specification-of Letters Patent.
raient-eu rel. e5. 1913.
Application led October 7. 1912. Serial No. 724.349.
To all iv/iom, 'it may concern Be it known that l, Oman: lVmnnnfu. a subject ot' the King of (i1-eat Britain. and a citizen of the Dominion ot Canada, residing of Hamilton, in the county1 of Nentworth and Province of Ontario, Dominion ot Canada, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Sliding-Door" Hangers specification.
This invention relates to a track and housing for sliding doors and has 't'or its object the provision of an improved device of this inclose and protect the wheels, said track and housing being of such formation that it may be made from a single piece ot' sheet metal.
lVith these and other objects in viewas will be apparent from the following description, my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations otl parts hereinafter fully described, and parby the appended claims.
The accompanying sheet of drawings, forming a part of this specifi "ation, isin illustration of the invention; Figure 1, beele-vation of a slidingdoor hanger and track embodying my improvements, onl .a fragment of the door being shown as it forms no integral part of the said invention. Fig. 2, is a fragmentary the door portion being removed for the sake of clearness.
Like reference characters designate the same or similar parts in all the figures.
According to my invention, I construct heavily galvanized iron, and form it with a vertical 'flange l, for fixture against the wall or other structure to which thc device is applied, and it is conveniently bolted thereto said flange 1, I outwardly bend the sheet ot` metal to constitute a roofing 3, and then downwardly bend said sheet to form a substantially vertical front facing 4. The lower front facing 4, is inwardly turned horizontal to 'form a basal portion 5, which is longitudinally grooved or corrugated at 6, for the purpose hereafter ex plained, and then downwardly turned to running the full length of the track.
rl`he hangers proper are constituted as follows: t), is one of the wheels suitably grooved about its peripheral surface to snugly tit the aforesaid'grooved or corrugated )art 6,
'of the track, and said wheels are preterably made of compressed liber. 'l`he wheel 9, is
loosely mounted upon a stub-axle l0, formed with ahead Il. adapted to lit snugly against the said wheel St. on its t'ront tace; and, to insure easy running` l use anti-friction rollersarouud said stub-axle l0.
l2, is a steel disk, securely tixed on the inner face ot the wheel 9. and it is ot' such a diameter a.- to constitute a flange therefor. ln some cases may shrink onto the wheel f), a steel rim '13, as shown in lt`igs. l and 2; or. l may simply employ the hardened liber wheel 9, alone. as indicated in ltig. 3.
14. is a sparing washer. and l5. a threaded extension ot the stub axle l0, which is screwed into the upper portion i7 ot the hanger. and afterward riveted over atlt', as will be clearly understood on an examina tion of Fig. 1: a crosslcut--not shown-being provided for the screwing operation in thea'toresaid head l1, while the riveting over at 16, insures absolute rigidity.
The hanger is preferably formed as shown; that is to sav, the lower part thereof is fashioned with hinge ears 15%. to which the lower hanger portion 19, is hingedlyconnected by a through bolt 20. Late `ally projecting from the upper portion 17, and integral therewith. I form a flange or bracket 21, provided with au upstandiug pin :22, on which is rotatably mounted a compressed liber roller S23, which in use, is adapted to traverse the outer lower face of the aforesaid depcnding flange 7, and thereby serve to steady as well as to insure easy running ot the entire device.
Obviously. two or more hangers will be employed in connection with each door, 25,`
From the Vforegoing description and a'c- Il (l com, anyinc' drawines it will be readil seen I. P3 D 1 that the suspended door 25, may be swung forwardly or upwardly, as well as longitndinally moved Without feairojf damaging or disconnectingthe several parts. Furtherinore by making the track of 'the cross sections shown the Wheels 9, will be kept properly positioned, while the depending llange 7 effectively prevents the ingress of dirt or rain and the like which interfere with the easy Working as Well as tend to deteriorate the metal.
(,)bviously changes in the shape, proportions and ininor details inay be eii'ected ,Yithout in any way departing from the spirit and scope of niy invention and it is intended to include all such Within this application, and as limited by thel appended claims.
Having thus fully described lny invention whatI l claiin as nev and desire to secure by Letters latent, is
l. In a device of the character described, a housingY land track member comprising a suspension lian'ge, a roof inclined thereto, a doWmvardly bent front facing continued substantially Vertical and parallel to said suspension flange, said front facing being inwardly lui-ned atits lower part into a horizontal plane, said inturned portion beingbent Vi nto concaro-conif'ex forni to there-- by provide a't-raekway, al depending vert-ical flange continued from said trackway, Wheelsl loosely mounted on stub-axlesland adaptedto travel-upon said trackiyay, a hanger to which said stub-axles are secured and means carried by said hanger and bearing against said down 'turned iiange to prevent inward straining of the track.
2. The combination. ina device ofthe type described of a track formed with a suspension flange, a rooting integral therewith and downwardly bent to 'constitute a front facinga lying in a plane substantially Vertical and parallel Vto said suspension flange, said front. facing` being` inwardly turned at its lower part into a horizontal plane and longitudinally grooved to forni a running 'Way' and then Vdownwardly bent to constitute; a substantially1 .vertical depending,r Flange, 'iyheels adapted to lit and traverse said' grcoved runningwayloosely mounted on stub-axles secured to the heads or" upper hanger portions, said upper hanger portions being furnished With laterally projecting llanges, freely revoluble.rollers mounted onv said laterally projectingl flanges adapted to traverse the outer face of the aforesaidl depending fiange to prevent the track from being outwardly strained, and means for suspending said track in position and fixing said hangers to the door, substantially as set forth.
3, A device ot' the character described, foi-ined of a single piege of sheet metal, said metal being bentto torinal suspension fiang'e, an inclined roof continued from said llange, a itront facing continued from said root', an ini'urned track forming member and a depending ilange carried by the track l'orlnii'ig ineniber, substantially as shownand described.
