To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER J. A. SoHNooR, a citizen of the United States,y residing at Holstein, in the county of Ida and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Buders and Catches, of which the following is a speciiation, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in door buffers and catches, the object of the invention being to provide a combined door buffer and catch adapted vto receive the impact of the door when it swings shut and also to automatically engage the door and hold the same closed.
Another object of the invent-ion is to Vprovide a combined door buffer and catch which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in-the' novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which,

Referrin more particularly to the draw ings, 1 in icates a door casing and 2 the free edge of the door, said door being herein illustrated in the form of a screen door. Secured to the door casing by means of the screws 3 is a casing 4 across the lower end of which is arranged a transversely extending rod 5, the ends of which are mounted in suitable bearings 6. Arranged within the casing is a suitable wire spring member 7, said spring member being looped adjacent one end thereof upon the rod 5 as shown at 8, the short end 9 of said wire extends up` wardly substantially at right angles to the loops 8, the extreme end of the short end 9 is bent at right angles as shown at 10.
Pivotally mounted upon the end 10 by means of the perforated lug 11 is the buier holder 12 which comprises the elongated body portion 12', the ends of which are bent substantially at right angles as shown at 13, and the buffer member 14 arranged therebetween. The. long end 15 of the wire spring member extends'at an angle .from the loop 8 up through an opening 16 in the upper end of the casing. The wire is then bent substantially at right angles as shown at 17 and supported byl means ofy the guide member 18 which is carried by the upper end of the casing 4. Formed integral with the outer end of the end arm is a ball 19 which is adapted to be inserted within the spring socket 20 when the door 2 is in a closed position, said socket being rigidly secured to the door frame by means of the screws 21.
Thus it will be seen that when the door is in an open position the ball 19 will be removed from the socket 20, while the buffer 14 will be disposed in the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1. When the door is closed, the frame thereof will engage the buffer 14 so as to prevent the full force of the door from striking against the door casing. As the door'swings shut it engages the buffer 14 pressing the same inwardly until the socket 20 engages over the ball 19 which will hold the door frame securely in place. It will be understood that the buifer 14 is so arranged as to prevent the screen door from slamming shut and avoid the unnecessary noise caused thereby, while at the same time the door will be closed and securely locked.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that variousl changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.
What I claim is 1. The combination with a swinging `door, of a casing secured to the door frame, a spring member mounted within the casing. a buffer pivotally mounted upon one end of said spring member, a ball formed upon the other end' of said sprin member, and a spring socket carried by t e free edge Iof the door and adapted to engage the ball member to hold the door in its closed position.
