WILLIAM VANSOOYO PATENT OFFICE,
o", OE OXFORD, OHIO.
IMPROVED WASHING-MACHINE.
Specificationforming part ofY Letters Patent No. 105,403, dated July 12, 1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown that I, WILLIAM VANscoYoc, of Oxford, Butler county, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tashing-Machines; and I do hereby deact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification.
My invention consists of certain improvements upon the washing-machine patented by John Dare, October 27, 1868.
In ,the accompanying drawing a perspective view of the machine embodying my invention is represented, a portion of' the side being removed in order to exhibit the interior.
A is the tu'b for the reception of the clothes and apparatus; B, the wash-board, and O the rubbing-roller, which, by the provision of the ratchet D and pawl E is also a feeding-roller.
(hinged or pivoted atf,) levers G, and handle H. These parts are all embodied in the patent granted to John Dare, October 27, 1868.
In order to provide for the ready adjustment of the rollers for rubbing the clothes, I attach the apparatus O D E F G II to theframe by means of theside springs, I I, which are fastened to the tub A at i, and are inclosed by the l jaws K. The jawsKaretitted with tightening screws L, by which the springs can be so adj usted that any required pressure can be brought to bear upon the rubbing-rollers.
The wash-board B, I perforate, as shown, to carry ot' the dirty sudsfand a receptacle, M, receives the same. This may beemptied at any time through a suitable discharge-pipe.
Ihe roller O being a feeding as well as rubbing roller is of necessity smooth-faced and but au imperfect rubber. In order to provide in connection with this roller O a form of roller better adapted for washing the clothes, I attach the uted roller N immediately in the rear of the roller O, and have found by this combination ot' rollers that the work can be most perfectly accomplished.
I claim herein as new and of my invention- In connection with a washing-ma structed substantially as described, t
rubbing-roller N, side springs, I I, and tightening-screws L, as and for the purpose described. y
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
WlLLIAM VANSOOYOO.
