Application tiled .Tilly 3, 1912. Serial No. 7022436.`
To Il whom 'it 11n/,y rentrer/l 1 Be it known that lf, Benini) F. Blum', a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough o't' Brooklyn, city ot New York, 'in the county ot' Kings and State o t' New York, have inventedfa new and useful lmprovemcntin Bottles, oi which the following' is a specification,
My invention relates to improre'ments in bottles; and the object ot my improvement is to make it' .impossible to retill the bottle after it has been once emptied, without breaking the neck ott' the bottle, in order was in its origimil State. I attain these oh-.. jects by the mechanism illustrated in the ae- Figure l is a central section oli the neck ot' the hottie containing the two sections ot the corkf Fig. 2 is a central section of section B of the corkf Figa'. 3 is the eentral seetionoit section G oit the cork 'Fie' Il is a top plan tiew-ot walls.l j. Fig. 5 a plan View ot' sieve D. Fraz (l is a plan View of sieve lil.
Similar lettere and numbers relier to similar parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
In Ydetail-the bottle is provided with neck A, the inner surface et the lower end of 'which beginning innnediatelv below sieve, D, hereinafter described, tapers downward to a small outlet at the extreme lower end et said neck A., thus; terminev tapering passage l. vSaid neck A is also provided with hollow flanged 'encircling' its top,
..13 and C are two separate Sections ot a eorkf B the lower section and C the upper section... Section B is provided with chamber b from which lead@l tapering` passage@ upward, the larger outlet of said passage -2 being at the top of Said section l. Section B is f urther provided with shout ders c and l above and tmcircline` said la rg'er outlet of tapering passage Section C ol' Said cork is provided'. with cl'iamhers f and f, c the lower chamber and j' the upper chamber, beingr separated by'solid partition g, through which run t'onr small pas-A sages 3 having` one or more turne l. said to upper chamber Said chamber f is partly partitioned oft into tour equal portions by walls j in a vertical position on partition g, .terminer a Greek cross, as shown outer end ot' Sect-ion C ot Said "corlc Groove in.. eneircles said section C near its top outer end, said groove M being' ot' the same height as the inside of hollow flange a at the top of neck A.
D is a tlat circular sieve, the diameter of which is the same as that of the inside ot' neck A abore the larger outlet of taperingl passage. l. lliaalso a flat circular Sieve of Smaller vdiameter than sieve D and of the lsame diametenas the circular space outlined by shoulder 1' immediately above the larger tmtlet oft' tapering passage 2 in section B ot ,the t cork.
in Fig. 4. Shoulder 7c encireles the lower F is a hollow ball, inserted in tapering .passage 'l of neck A, having a diameter sufficiently large enough to permit itssnrface to engage the surface ol said tapering passage .l near ita top or larger outlet.
(t is a hollow dumb-bell, inserted in tapering' passage 2 ot' section B ot the cork, having two spherical ends, one larger than the other, the diameters eti-said spherical ends being sullieiently largeenough to permit their respective .Lui-'tacos to engage the Surt'aee ot said tapering' passage 2 in such a position as to allow the upper and larger spherical end ot said dumb-,bell G to be near the Vtop or larger outlet of said taperin;- passage The length of dmnb-hell G from tip to tip should be greater than the diameter ol the peripher)v of the top and larger outlet ot tapering })z1.-szige Q.
v.kt'ter the liquid is poured into the bottle, the hollow hall l` is inserted in the tapering' paesage 'l ot neck 'lhe sieve D is then placed securel)1 above and covering the top or larger outlet otl said tapering passage 1. Section B ot the cork is next inSerted. chamber o downward, into neck A,
Sothat the lower end of Said Section-B will The dumb-bell end downward of section B of he [lush with Said sieve l). ,r/ is then placed smaller within tapering' passage 2. said eork,"y and Sieve l is placed above and covering;r the upper or larger outlet ot' tapering passage Q, fitting,r securely 4within and flush with shoulder Then follows section C ot Sait i cork" within said neck'. Shoulder Z' Hush with shoulder ff, the top ot said section C being' flush with lange a of neck thus formingan iuelosed hollow spare o with said flange a. Through small hole jn. in the top of hollow tlangc u ma)v he poured some mitable liquid cement tilting Said hollow space o formed hy said hollow serted in the top of the bottle.
Any suitable material may be used in the construction of my invention, however, it is preferable that all of the mechanisrnfhere- Aiubet'ore described shuld be made of glass.
In the operation of pouring the liquid out of the bottle, the hollow ball F and hollow dumb-bell G, in tapering passages l and 2 respectively, act as Valves by dropping to sieves D and E respectively and allowing free space around the same through which the liquid can pass before flowing through holes in saidsieves and then on through chamber e, passages 3, `and chamber f respectively. On standing or holding the bottle in a vertical position, or in any position not inclined sufliciently to allow the liquid to pass out of t-he bottle, the dumb-bell G and ball F will slip back to their original positions engaging the surface of tapering lmssages 2 and l respectively, thusforming an obstruction to any liquid attempted to be poured into theA bottle through the neck. When the bottle has once been emptied, no liquid can be poured back or forced into the same, even if the same is placed in a horizont-al position, because, if attempted, and the liquid has succeeded in getting as far as tapering passage 2 of section C of the cork and comes in contact with dumbbell G, the latter, which is hollow-and made as light as possible, preferably7 of glass, will be forced back by the `liquidinto the position it takes when the bottle is in a vertical position, thus forming an obstruction.A Hollow ball F will act in the same way as dumb-bell G and as an extra-precaution in the event of any liquid passing dumb-bell'G. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: l
l. In a bottle, the combination of a neck with a passage near its lower end tapering to a small outlet intothe bottle, a sieve covering the top and larger outlet of said tapering passage; a cork secure within the neck and comprisingptwo sections, one
n above the other, t-he lower section -of said cork containing a chamber at its lower end from which leads a tapering passage upward through said lower section, a sieve covering the top and larger outlet of'v said tapering passage; the upper section of said cork containing a lower and upper chami to a small youtlet into the bottle, a sieve covering the top .and larger outlet of said tapering passage; a cork secure within the neck and comprising two sections, one above the other, the lower section' of said cork containing a chamber at its lower end from which 'leads a tapering passage upward through said lower section, a 'sieve covering thel top and largerv outlet of said tapering passage; the upper section of said cork conta-ininga lower and upper chamber separated by a solid partition through which runs" one or more passages leading from saidV lower chamber to said upper chamber; and a ball in saidtapering passage of said-neck acting as a valve,.substan tially a`s described. 1 y y 3. Ina bottle, the combination'of a neck with a passage near itslower end tapering to a small outlet into thel bottle, a sieve `covering the top and larger outletl of said tapering passage; a cork secure within the neck and comprising two sections, one above the other, rthe lower section of said cork containing'a chamber at its lower end from which leads a tapering passage upward through said'lower section, a sieve covering the top and larger outlet of said tapering passage; the upper section ofl said cork containing a lower and upper chamber separated-by a solid partition through which runs one or more passages leading from said lower chamber to said upper chamber; and a dumb-bell invsaid tapering Apassage of said lower section of said cork acting as a valve; substantially as described.'
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my .nameto' this specification in the presence `of two subscribing witnesses.
