Description
K BITTER SUPPORT FOR FOLDING HOOPS 0F MOTOR CARS.
- APPLICATION FILED MAY 10, 1911.
Patented Feb. 18, 1913.
W071i ewes To aZZ whom. it may concern:
KARL BITTER, or VSCHWETZ'ING-EN, GERMANY.
SUPPORT FOR FOLIDING ROOFS OF MOTOR-CARS.
i ,osasis.
Be it known that I, KAR BITTER, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Schwetzingen, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Folding Roofs of Motor-Oars, of which the following is a specification.
The inain requirements for folding-roofs of motor cars are, 1. that the same, when opened, do not entrance of the car, 2. that the fabric of the roof"be uniformly carried by; its support,
of the support, when closed, lie at equal distances upon each other, and 4. that the same can be quickly and easily manipulated.
The present invention provides a foldingroof, which entirely accomplishes said four.
requirements.
To make my invention more clear and that it may be fully unde stood reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is a side view of a support according to my invention in its open position, and Fig; 2 shows thistsupport in its closed position and in an enlarged scale.
The main supporting :rod 0: of the front part of the folding-roof lies behind the entrance to the rear seats of the motor car and assumes rather it does not form an impediment to such Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed May 10, 1911.
form an impediment to the two-sectional beammy hand in the steep position, so that Patented Feb. 18, 1913. Serial No. 626,361.
entrance. At the upper end, said main rod carries a lazy tong arrangement of supporting rods 03, e, c, d which in open pos tion extend over the front of the car, while the lowest rod d, e of said arrangement, which is directly attached to said main rod, is provided with a joint, by which saidvarrangement'can be folded upon the main rod.
claim:
Improved support for folding roofs,
more especially for motor cars, comprising in combination. with a pivoted main beam' and not vice versa, 3. that the single carriers a an upwardly and forwardly directed d, which has a fixed hinge (h), preventing a turning motion of the two sections overthe straight form of the beam, and is articulated to the main beam, a tension rod e, articulated to the beams (a)' and (d), a middle and front rod (0, b) articulated to the said tension rod,'and a connecting rod (f) articulated to the said sectional beam and pivot-ally connecting the rods band 0. i
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set presence of two subscribing witnesses. I
KARL BITTER.
