FEEDING DEVICE FOR METAL-PUNCHING MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18,1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS NEUMANN, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Hagen, \Vestphalia, Germany, have invented a new and useful Feeding De vice for Metal-Punching Machines, of which the following is a speclficati'on.
The present invention relates to a device for feeding-metal blanks such as the link plates of bicycle chains and the like to the punching machine.
It is a common practice to feed such blanks to the machine in which the holes are punched by means .of endless traveling bands on which the blanks are disposed by hand. This handling of the blanks is obviated by the present invention according to which a feeding wheel carrying radially disposed magnets is provided, the magnets being adapted to take the blanks from a receptacle and feed them, through the medium of a chute, onto the traveling band.
The invention also includes certain improvements as regards the receptacle and the band.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is illustrated, Figure 1 representing a sectional side view, and Fig. 2, a plan of the apparatus.
The blanks are stored in a receptacle (1 having a slanting bottom d and fitted with a partition 6, the latter forming at its lower end a pasage 0 through which the blanks escape singly from the receptacle. Sliding along the bottom-wall d the blanks are stopped by a feeding wheel 6 which is provided with radially disposed magnets f adapted to attract the blanks and compel them to participate in the movement of the wheel. At the other side of the wheel e an inclined chute g is provided which is so arranged relat-it e to the magnets as to strip the blanks off the latter and feed them onto,
the endless band hwhich in its turn conveys them to'thc punching machine. Vertical walls Z are carried from the receptacle a over the wheel e and along the band it so as to form a guide channel for the blanks. The band is provided with a thickening i which is accommodated in the space between the walls Z and which prevents the blanks from escaping laterally underneath said walls. An inclined plate is is arranged over the band between the walls Z so as to form a gate corresponding with the thickness of the-blanks, the latter being thus prevented from passing except in a single file.
The magnets should be adapted to take only one blank at a time and should be arranged at a distance apart determined by the desired distance between the blanks on the band. Since the attracted blanks are energized and tend to themselves, the arrangement should be such that if a, second blank follows it either turns into the space between the magnets or is attracted and delivered by the next magnet.
I claim 1. A device for feeding metal blanks to a punching machine, comprising the combination with an endless traveling band which conveys the blanks to the machine, of a feeding wheel, radially disposed magnets carried by said wheel and adapted to attract and convey said blanks singly, a receptacle having a slanting bottom adapted to feed the blanks singly to the wheel, and an inclined chute disposed so as to strip the blanks from the magnets and deliver them onto said band.
2. A device for feeding metal blanks to a punching machine, comprising the combination with an endless traveling band which conveys the blanks to the machine, of a feeding wheel, radially.disposed magnets carried by said wheel and adapted 'to attract and convey said blanks singly, a receptacle having slanting bottom adapted to feed the blanks singly to the wheel, an inclined chute disposed so as to strip the blanks from the magnets and deliver them onto said band, vertical walls arranged along said band so as to form a guide-channel for the blanks, and a plate arranged between said walls so as to form agate adapted to prevent the blanks from passing except ina single file.
3. A device for feeding metal blanks to a punching machine, comprising the combination with an endless traveling band which conveys the blanks to the machine, of a feedin wheel, radially disposed magnets carrie by said wheel and adapted to attract and convev said blanks singly, means for accommodated between said walls so as to feeding the blanks singly to the wheel, an prevent the blanks from escaping laterally inclined chute disposed so as to strip the underneath the latter.
blanks from the magnets and deliver them LOUIS NEUMANN. [1,. s.] 1 5 onto said band, vertical walls arranged on Witnesses:
said band soas to form aguide-channel for HELEN NUFER,
the blanks, and a thickening on said band ALBERT NUFER.
