The object of my invention is to construct a garment hanger support which may be rigidly secured in the receptacle; which will have an armprojecting beyond the front of the receptacle when in use and adapted to be turned, so as not to extend beyond the front line of the tray, when the arm is not in use. A further object of my invention-is to hold said arm in the extended position by means of a sliding bar; and a still further object of my invention is to lock the arm 'and the sliding bar together when the arm is in use.

Referring to the accompanying drawing Figure l is a perspective view of my improved garment hanger support, shown secured to the inside surface of a trunk tray; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the garment hanger sup-port, looking toward the reverse side of the same; Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of the tray showing the garment hanger support in elevation with the extension arm folded within the front line of the tray; Fig. 4 is a frontelevation of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a vertical section on line -5-5 Fig. 3.

In the drawing in which like references refer to like parts z1 represents one side of the tra-y, 2 the back and '3 the top. The tray is shown standing in an erect position, with the front open for inserting and removing fgarments, which are carried upon hangers,

tray by mea-ns of rivets 12 and is secured to the back 2 of the tray by a rivet 13. A lug 14 at the end of the body plate is provided to rece-ive the rivet 13 and form a bearing surfaceaga-inst thefback of the tray.- The body plate 8 is'also provided with lugs 17 and 18, forming bearing members which are offset so as to hold the body plate 8 away from the surface of the side of the tray, to allow the hooks 5, of the cross-piece 4, 'to slide freely upon the body pla-te 8.

The overlapping portions of the arm and the body plate are reduced/in thickness so as to form a track of practically the same thickness throughout, for the hooks 5, of the cross-pieces 4, to slide upon without any obstruction. The arm 9 when down, as shown in Fig. 3, passes to one side of the locking bar 10, and .upon the arm 9 is provided a lug 22, projecting from one side-of the arm and in vertical alinement .with the locking bar 10. The latter has a recess 23 formed therein to receive the luo' 22 upon the arm 9 and hold the locking that it cannot move when in engagement with the lug 22, upon the arm. The inner lbar 10, so

end of the arm 9 is provided with an inwardly projecting lug y28, which forms a stop, when the arm 9 is in the posit-ion shown in Fig. 3, to prevent the hooks 5, of the garment hangers, from moving forward and sliding off the body plate 8. When the arm 9 is in the position shown in Fig. 1, the` lug 28 is flush with the top surface of the body plate 8, and will not prevent the hooks 5 from sliding over the body plate 8 and the arm 9.

The outer end of the locking bar 10, is provided with a hook 25 to acilitate in withdrawing the same.

The operation of my improved garment hanger support is as follows z-The arm 9 is raised slightly above the horizontal position as shown in Fig. 2, the locking bar 10 is then drawn out into the osition shown in Fi 2, and the arm 9 is ropped upon the loc ing bar 10, and the lug 22, on the arm, enters the recess 23, formed in the locking bar 10, so that the latter cannot move. The garment hangers 4 are placed upon and suspended between the arms 9, and they are pushed back upon the body plates 8 ,fthen the arms are raised sufficiently to disengage the lug 22, from the locking bar, so that the latter may be moved back into the position shown in Fig. 3, and the arm allowed to swing down into the position shown in Fig. 3, and within the line of the front of the tray, so that the trunk or wardrobe containing the tray may be closed, and the lug 28, upon the arm 9 will revent the garment hangers from sliding o the body plate 8.

I-Iaving thus described my invention I claimand desire to secure by `Letters Pat.- ent:

1. A device of the character described, comprising a bod plate, an arm pivoted to said body plate, ugsy upon said body plate forming bearing members, a locking bar slidably mounted in said bearing members, said bearin to hold sai body platel and said arm in a members being formed so as thereof for securing the same, lugs upon the body plate forming bearing members, a locking bar mounted in said bearing members, a
