ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT FOR ELECTRIC LAMPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 29, 1912. Serial No. 680,772.
Be it'known that I, ADOLPH'OOHN', a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at WVest Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improved Adjustable Support for Electric Lamps, of which the fol-- lowing is a specification.
This invent-ion relates to adjustable supports of electric lamps and has for its object the adjusting of any suspended electric lamp as to height and position in anefiicient way, holding the lamp in place seshould be advantageous. I
Of the drawings Figure 1 represents an' elevation of my improved support for electrio-lamps, the upper portion partly in section also showing a lamp supported. Fig. 2, is an elevation of the clamp for holding the lamp cord. Fig. 3 is a plan view of this clamp.
In the drawings top 1 has a circular curved portion 2 with numerous poles 3 and can be firmly attached to the ceiling or to any other suitablep1ace near the-rosette of a suspended electric lamp. The cone shaped shell 4, an integral part of top 1 has an opening 5 through which rod 6 passes freely. Rod 6 has the pin shaped end 7 normally entering one of the holes 3 through the action of helical spring 8-pressing against washer 9 and pin 10 driven into rod'6.
Rod 6 carries at its end 11 the cord holding clamp Fig. 2 and Fig. 3, of which the description ollows; The cord holding clamp Fig. 2 and Fig. 3, consists of two double armed levers 12 and 13 with bent over ears 14, 15, 16 and 17 provided with holes, so that stem 18 serving as pivot and 30 supporting them. Stem 18 is a part of socket 19 whichis held firmly to rod 6 by screw 20. Spring 21 over stem 18 presses together the clamping arms 22 and 23. These arms are placed to each other'obliquely and. have concavely recessed edges 24 and 25, flexible flaps 26 and 27 preferably of rubber which are attached to the inner sides of arms 22 and 23 so that they overlap the concaved edges 24: and 25 and may embrace'the lamp cordfirmly. By pressing on the rounded ends 28 and .29 arms 22 and 23 will open andrelease the lamp-cord. Top 1 is attached convenientlynear the rosette of an electric lamp so that the cord holding clamp Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 is just in reaching height.

The operation is as follows: Pull rod 6 downward which unlocks the pin shaped end 7 from its hole 3, move rod 6 to desired location and let it enter again the. nearest hole 3 which will hold rod 6 locked in place.-
Press on rounded ends- 28 and 29 and place the flexible cord with the electric-lamp at the desired height between the open flaps 26 and 27. On releasingthe hold of the parts 28 and 29 of the clamp, arms 22 and 23 with flaps 26 and 27 will close and hold the cord and lamp in place firmly.
Having described my invention, what I a claim is new and desire to secure by Letlters Patent of the United States, is as folows:

A device of the character described, comprising a base plate having a plurality of perforations all over its sur face, a depending inverted cone-shaped case attached thereto provided with an opening at its apex, a rod extending through said opening into said casing, the upper end of said rod being adapted tobe seated in anyone of said perforations, a s ring coiled upon said rod for projecting t e same into engagement with the perforations in said base plate, and a lamp holding clamp attached to the lower end ofsaid rod. A lamp, holding clamp, comprising two arms pivoted together provided with clamping jaws arranged in planes at an angle to each other, said jaws being, provided with registering recesses in their longitudinal meeting edges, overlapping resilient flaps attached to said jaws covering said recesses, and a spring for holding said jaws in closed positions.
