UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR HARRY WRIGHT, 0F DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND.
APPARATUS FOR DISPLAYING ADVERTISEMENTS, INFORMATION-SHEETS, AND THE LIKE.
Application filed January 26, 1911.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR HARRY WRIGHT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Dunedin, New Zealand, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Displaying Advertisements, Information-Sheets, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is for mechanism suitable for operating information bands and indicating means and is adapted to be used in conjunction with advertising or displaying apparatus.
The invention may be said primarily to consist in the combination with a casing, information bands and rollers therefor contained in said casing, a traveling indicating means, hand operated means for effecting the movement and desired adjustment of said indicating means and of the rollers for the information bands, and a glazed or other sight opening in the casing, of means whereby the movement, whether lineal or angular, which is imparted to the hand operated means is increased or multiplied by suitable gearing so that the information band receives a greater movement, and of tension or compression springs applied to one or more axles of the information band rollers for keeping the band taut.
Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 a vertical section, and Fig. 3 an enlarged detail. Fig. 4 is a detailed view of the tension spring and roller.
According to the construction, a prime motion gear wheel or ring 18 having teeth 19 on its rear face is mounted in a circular gear guide 20 in the front of the casing J and adapted to travel on idle rollers 21. The operating handle D and indicator F are fixed to the ring 18 and the index G is marked on the front of the casing around said ring, while a stop pin 22 is provided to limit the movement of, the indicator in both directions of rotation.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1913.
Serial No. 604,811.
The gear train L receives motion from a wheel 23 gearing with the teeth 19 of the ring while each roller has within it a tension spring B The rollers are indicated by B and B, and in Fig. 4, a tension spring 13 is shown to maintain the band 0 taut.
The gear train L comprises a wheel Z,.con necting with wheel 23 and fast with wheel Z meshing with wheel Z and the latter is fast with wheel Z which meshes with a roller gear 6.
I claim 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with an information band or strip and rollers therefor, a casing having an opening to expose a portion of the band, a manually operable circular indicator gear surrounding said opening, and gearing operatively connecting said circular gear with one of said rollers, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, the
combination with an information band or .7
strip and rollers therefor, of a casing therefor having an opening for exposing a portion of said band and also having a gear guide, a manually operable circular indicator gear mounted in said guide and hav- ARTHUR HARRY WRIGHT.
