Be it known that I, JOHN C. BnEvNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the,4 county of Essex and State of New Jersey, havel invented certain new and 'useful Improvements in Polishing Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use .the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a `part of this specification. The present invention has reference, generally, to improvements in polishing machinery, and the'pr'esent invention has for its principal object to provide a compa-ct, efficient and `automatic polishing machine adapted, more particularly,vto impart a high bright polish to objects'having substantially round or cylindrical surfaces, and to therelby provide such objects with a smooth, uniform-.and highly nishedsurface, free from blemishes, burns, or buckles,or blistered appearance. primarily, in the novel automatic polishing machine hereinafter set forth.; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements and combinations of the several devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which w-ill be more fully described in detail in the following specication, v and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which are appended to and which form an essential part of t-he said specification.

Said nutpieces 25 each ride within one of said casings 15, so as to' cause the upward or downward movement of the latter, whereby said supporting arms 12, and the respective supporting plates 10 connected therewith arecarried up or down in accordance with the desired vertical adjustment. In order to assure the uniform and simultaneous movement of the respective casings 15 from which extend, in the manner above described, the respective supporting arms 12 carrying the supporting plate 10 there is provided a longitudinally extending shaft 26, the opposite ends of which are connected rwith worm-members 27 j ournaled in bearing portions 28 of the respective longitudinally opposite casings 15. Each nut-piece 25 -1s provided upon its circumferential surface with worm gear teeth 29 which mesh with the respective worm-members 27 Each longitudinal shaft 26 thus arranged is provided with a suitably located hand-wheel 30, which serves to turn said lshaft 26, thereby operatingsaid worm-members 27 to simultaneously turn said nut-pieces 25 of longitudinally opposite casings 15, and whereby the latter are moved upwardly or downwardly upon said screw-threaded arms 9 to which they are connected, thus causing said uniform upward or downward vertical adjustment of the said supporting plate 10 connected therewith.
