siding at ."Vhite Oak, in the county of Craig and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to tables, and has for an object to provide a portable device of this character which can be readily folded to occupy a compact package, when it is desired tocarry the table from place to place.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for securely holding the legs of the table folded against one side of the top of the table.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the table, showing the legs folded against one side of the table top. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the table, showing the same set up. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of one of the elements of the leg retainer. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the other element of the retainer. Fig. 5 is a section taken through both elements of the retainer, showing the means for holding the element in locked position.

Thetable herein illustrated comprises a top 1 which is provided at. its corners with legs 2, that are hinged at 3 to the top, whereby the legs can be folded against one side of the latter, as shown in the drawings. At the center of the table is a substantially disk retaining element 4 which is provided with radial recesses 5 for the reception of the free extremities of the legs 2, when thelatter are folded against the top 1. To the element 4: is pivoted, as at 6, a companion locking element 7, which is provided with radial recesses 8 that may be brought into registration with the recesses 5 of the first element 4, whereby the said free extremities of the legs 2 can be operatively extended into the said recesses 5. As stated, the element 7 is revolubly mount-ed upon the element 4, and as illustrated, intervening portions 9 between the recesses 8 of the ele ment 7 are adapted to be extended across the open sides of the recesses 5, so that the legs will be held against pivotal movement.

The element 7 of the leg retaining device is provided with a sliding stem 10 which is arranged with one of its extremi ties in frictional contact with a surface 11 of the element- 4, a spring 12 upon the element 7 being associated with the stem 10, so as to bend to move the same in the direction of the said surface 11. An actuating button 13 on the stem 10 may be engaged by the hand to facilitate the adjustment of the member '7.

With a view to holding the table set up, I provide locking devices 14 adjacent to the corners of the table, and as shown, these devices are adapted to engage with the legs 2, so as to hold them against pivotal movement.

From the construction of the table described, it is evident that the legs 2 may be readily folded to support the table in a set up position, or they may be 'folded to lie against one side of the top 1, whereby the table is rendered extremely compact to permit of its being carried from place to place.

Vhatis claimed is:

1. A table, a member secured to the under side of the table at the center thereof and provided with diametrically disposed re cesses, pivoted legs carried by the table and disposed directly opposite said recesses and adapted to be terminally swung into the recesses whereby the legs will lie directly against the under side of the table top, rotatable means carried by said centrally located member of the top and provided with recesses adapted to aline with the first recesses and provided intermediate of the recesses wit-h portions adapted to close the first recesses whereby to confine the table legs in said first recesses.
