The semi-cylindric sections 1 of the pipe are all made alike, excepting that a half section 1 must he usedat each end of the series for making a p pe with staggered joints. Each long semi-cylindric section is provided with the lateral rib 2 on each side edge. the annular rib 3 on the spigot end. and the intermediate. ribs 4: around the sideof the pipe, which'ribs are provided for strengthening the pipe and are preferably- {TED er -re PATENT orrron.

To form a' full pipesection. two long semi-cylindric sections 'are placed together; and itisevident that the single hooks on the one side of each section will enter. be tween the corresponding pair of hooks on the abutting edge of the other section..' as shown in Fig.1; and it is evident when the sections are thus assembled. the abutment of the sidesof the overlapping hooks will prevent a longitudinal displacement of the sections with reference .toeach other. and
the abutment of the tangential 'shanks'of the hooks with the lateral ribs, will prevent a lateral displacement of the sections. With the hooks in this relation, it is evident that. the pins 7 may be entered endwise into the opposing socketsformed by the several overlapping hooks. by means of which the semi-cvlindric sections will be held together. It will be understood that 'the'use of pins not necessary to hold the sections together when the pipe isinstalled under the ground. but are intended more particularly for holding the two sections together for transporting and; handling the full sections of pipe. The bell flanges 43 are beveled outwardly at each side edge of the semi-cylindric section. and it is evident that by reason ot'the peculiar shape oft-he hook shanks set forth herein. the removal of the pinsfrom one side of a full pipe section, permits the upper half thereof to be rotated upward on the opposite edge of the lower half as a ful-- erun1.'as shown 1n Figs. at and 6, to give ac cess to the inside of the pipe for cleanmg and other purposes.
