Description

` G. H. G
WINDOW APPL10AT10N HLE Patented Jan.28,1913.
M mm 'UNITED STACS PATENT OFFICE@ GEORG-E I-I. CAMP, O LEOLYN, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOW-GUARD.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. CAMP, a citizen of t-he 'United States, residing at Leolyn, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window guards and embraces the construction ot a combined window guard and alarm.
One ot the objects of the invention is the construction of a simple window guard whereby a window may easily be locked and which will close a circuit when an effort is made to open the window.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a window guard and alarm consisting ot a cam locking member and a rack acted on by the cam and electrical contactsso arranged with relation to the cam vthat the alarm circuitconnected to said contacts will be closed when the cam is forced from its normal non-contacting position by the action of an upward or opening movement of the window, caused by a person seeking unlawful entrance through the window.
With the above and other objects in view the invention embraces certain constructions, combinations and arrangements ot parts clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a front elevation of a window trame provided with my improvements, F ig. 2 is a detail vertical sectional view thereof, Fig. 3 is a detail elevation showing the manner in which the guard is mounted in place on the window frame, also showing the cam out oit' engagement with the contacts, and Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the parts in a different position from that in which they are seen in Fig. 3.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are prepared for illustrative purposes and are accordingly not drawn to scale, 1 denotes the trame ot a window consisting of the usual top and bottom members 2 and 3 and side members 4. Each ot the side members is formed with window guides 5, on which a window 6, of ordinary construction, rides.
One of the side members of the trame 1 is provided with spaced side walls 4 and v Specification of Letters Patent.

4. The wall 4 is formed with a groove 7 and carries the locking cam 8, which is pivotally held in place thereon by means ot a key or pin 10, the outer end of which is formed with a l"-shaped head whereby the cam may be manually operated. The cam 8 carries two spaced contact arms 10 and is formed with a straight side and a notched side. The Contact arms are on the opposite sides of the cam and are adapted to engage fixed contacts 12 and 13. The side wall 4 is removably held on the trame 1 by means of screws 14 and is formed with a slot 15 whereby the same may be removed .trom the frame without disturbing the position of the pivot key 10. A wire 16 is connected to t-he contact on the side wall 4 and a wire 17 is connected to the contact on the side wall 4, said wires being connected to the circuit of a generator and alarm mechanism.
Normally the cam S occupies a position out of engagement with the contacts 12 and 13 and with the straight side ot the same held in a parallel position to the adjacent edge of the window, which edge is provided with a rack 18 adapted to engage with the notched side of said cam. l/Vhen it is desired to place the cam in position to lock the window the key 10 is manually turned so as to bring the lower notch nearest the rack 18 in engagement with said rack 18. Should an eiiort be made to torce the window open the cam will be turned so that the main part of the notched side will engage the teeth of the raclr 1.8 and the contacts 10 will be forced into engagement with the contacts 12 and 13 and the circuit will be closed. spring 19, is secured to the casing 1, and is adapted to engage with the notched side of the cam S, for the purpose of holding the said cam 8, normally in a predetermined position. lVhen the window has been raised certain distance, after the cam has been set tor action, th-e rounded unnotched edge oi: the cam will come into engagement with 'thc rack and the window will be ammed by said cam against further movement.
Having described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a window guard, a window frame, a cam having a notched edge and pivotally mounted on the window trame, a window movable in the trame, a rack on said window adapted to engage the cam, spaced con- In testimony whereof I affix my signature tacts carried by the cam, relatively fixed in presence of two Witnesses.
contacts adapted to be enUaO'ed by the contects on the cam, :i spring zda-pted to hold GEORGE H' CAMP' the cam normally in a predetermined posilVitnesses: tion and electric connections with said iXed EDNA A. TEAGUE, contact-s. E. J. CLEVELAND.
