Description

O. A. JOHNSON.
DIE STOCK.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 26, 1912.
Patented Jan. 28, 1913.
iliimii' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLE A. JOHNSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DIE-STO CK.
T alt whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLE A. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Die-Stocks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to improve die stocks designed for holding several dies for the cutting of threads on pipes, etc., such as are shown in U. S. Patents #151,010 and #176,694.
In the drawing, Figure 1, is a perspective view of my improved die stock; Fig. 2, is a perspective View of my improved die stock from the side opposite to that shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional view, at right angles to the views shown in Figs. 1, and 2, in the plane indicated by line 3-3 in Fig. 1; and Fig. 4, is a longitudinal sectional View in the plane indicated by line lt-4 in Fig. 3one of the dies being omitted.
Referring to the drawing, hollow frame 5 is formed with square body 6, and bosses 7 into which are threaded tubes 9, forming the handles of my improved die stock. Adjoining sides 10 and 11, of frame 5, are provided with pockets 12, adapted to receive dies 13, which are preferably made of various sizes, such as 1%--} and 3. Plate 14 is fastened by screws 15 to frame 5, be-

tween adjoining sides 10 and 11, in such a way as to hold dies 13 firmly in place. Sides 16 and 17 of frame 5, being opposite to sides 10 and 11 respectively, are provided with holes 18, preferably surrounded by bosses 8, on the inside of body 6, and located exactly opposite to the openings in dies 13, and of such size as to form convenient guides for the tubes or other parts to be threaded by means of the several dies 13, respectively. Along the edge formed between sides 16 and 17, several holes 19 are provided by means of which chips which are cut by the dies 13, find a convenient outlet. By means of loosening screws 15 and removing plate 14, dies 13 become readily accessible, so as to be removable and exchangeable.
I claim In die stocks, the combination, with suitable handles, of a square frame connecting said handles, having guide-holes in two adjoining sides, and die-pockets in the opposite sides, said pockets opening toward the corner of said frame located between the diepockets; and means to hold dies removably in said pockets.
OLE A. JOHNSON.
