E. MORRISS.
LOOM SHUTTLE.
APPLICATION IILED AUG. 2, 1911.
Patented Jan. 21, 1913.
OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
EDWARD MORRISS,
LOOM-SI-IUTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan. 21, 1913.
Serial N0. 641,914.
Application filed August 2, 1911.
standing base flange 15, by which it is secured to the floor of the recess 9 by a screw 16. The pin 14 has a base flange 17 which is placed on top of the flange 12. The screw 16 passes through the flange 17 also, and therefore serves to fasten both pins in the recess. The pins 12 and lt are located between the ends of the slits 8 and 10 opening into the recess 9, and the thread passes from the bobbin through the slit 8, around the pin 12 and then through the slit 14: and the eye 11. The shuttle is threaded by bringing the thread through the slits and recess. That portion of the thread which lies in the recess in then slipped upwardly on the pin 14: and over the top thereof, so as to come between said pin and the pin 12. The top of the pin 14 is curved slightly toward the pin 12, so that the thread may slip easily over the same.
The device herein described obviates sucking of the shuttle, makes a better selvage, causes less breaking of the filling, and will allow the running of fine filling, and is also adapted for silk filling weaving through one eye, whereas other shuttles require two eX- tra eyes.
I claim:
A loom shuttle having a recess in front of the bobbin cavity, and vertical slits running forward from said cavity to the recess and rearward from the recess to the side of the shuttle, a thread guide-pin in the recess, and having at its top a sidewise and downward bend, and a guard pin located adjacent to the guide pin, beneath the top bend thereof.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD MORRISS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD Monnrss, a. citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom- Shuttles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to loom shuttles and more particularly to the device for threading the shuttle, its object being to provide an improved device by which the shuttle may be easily and quickly threaded without suction, and to this end the inven tion consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
In order that the invention may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure 1 is a plan view of the delivery end of a shuttle showing the application 0 the invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the body of the shuttle, and 6 the cavity in which the bobbin 7 lies. From the bobbin cavity a slit 8 extends forwardly to a recess 9 in the body of the shuttle, near the end thereof, and from one side of this recess a slit 10 extends rearwardly through the shuttle body and opens through one side thereof adjacent to a threading eye 11.
In the recess 9 is mounted a thread guidepin 12, having its top end bend sidewise and downwardly in a curve, as shown at 18, in Fig. 3, whereby the thread is prevented from slipping off. A guard pin 14: is also provided, said pin being located adjacent to the pin 12, with its upper end located beneath the bend 13. The pin 12 has an out- Witnesses:
