Specification of Letters Patent.
' "Patented Jan. 231, H313.
- Application filed. July 12, 1911. Serial No. 633,145.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that 1, HENRY C. MANNY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grays Run, in the county of Lycomin and State of Pennsylvania, have invente certain new and useful Improvements in Lift ing-Jaclts, of which theiollowingis a specification.
This invention relates to lifting jacks, and the principal object of the same is to provide simple means whereby adjustments are facilitated, and also for locking the parts of the jack in their adjusted position.
Preferred and practical embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein- I Figure 1 is perspective view of the improved jack. Fig. 2 is acentral vertical sectional view. Fig, 8 is a horizontal sectional opening and eccentr cally cut rior of the support 41 view.
Like references designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings. The improved lifting jack comprises a tubular support 4 having an enlarged beset, and at one portion of its upper edge is provided with a laterally projecting boss 6 through whichanopening 7 is formed, said opening communicating at an intermediate point with the interior of the support. acent one end, a key opening 8 is formed through the boss 6 and intersects the opening Y. A locking bolt 9 is rotatable in the 7, and has a portion longitudinally away, as indicated at 10, to conform to the curvature of the interior of the sup )ort. The bolt 9 is provided with a circuin' erential groove 11 that is 111 alinement with opening 8, and a key 12 extends through opening 8 and engages groove 11 to prevent the bolt 9 having longitudinal movement in opening 7. Also the'bolt 9 has an enlarged head 12, thatprojects beyond one end of the boss and is provided with-a transverse opening in which an operating handle 13 is loosely m unted. The other end of the bolt 9 is flush with the adjacent end ofhoss 6, and the said adjacent ends are provided with indicators or marks, 14 and 15 to designate the position of the cut-away portion 10 of said bolt relative to the inte- Internally the support t isprovided with a longitudinally arranged guiding I vertically movable in the support 4, and is provided with external longitmiinally extending groove 'icfvvith which therih 16 threaded,an
Ad- I rib 16. A hollow post 17 is n support, afpost longitudinal "therein and'provided witlrregu l 5 locking bolt interlocks to prevent relative rotation of the support and post. Externally the post 17 is provided with regularly spaced transverse keeper grooves 19 which are adapted to be selectively engaged, by bolt 9 to look the post against longitudinal movement relative to said post, The post 17 is internally The'work-holder is provi ed uponwhich a the externallvthreaded shank 20 of a work support 21 adjustably enga as The rest 23 is i that prevents work slipping. The support 21 is provided with intersecting openings 24 through which the operating bar 25 extends. It will be clear from the tore oing that by rotating the eccentric locking olt 9 to present its notched orcut-away rtion 10 to the interior of the support 4:, t e post 17 can be moved vertically, and. by rotatin said bolt to present its full rounde side Within the support, the same will engage one ofthe grooves 19 and thereby lock the post against vertical movement. the locking of the post 17 indication marks 26 are provided thereon to show' Whenthe grooves 19 are in osition to be engaged y the solid part of te bolt 9. .f
It will be seen that this invention prothe To facilitate vides means whereby the work can be I tated while supported, and that two distinct adjustments may be obtained, one by adjusting the post 17 relative to the support-4,
and the other by adjusting the work'support 21 relative to said post.
What {claim as my invention is 1. A lifting jack comprising a hollow support having a boss provided with an o ening which communicates with the inter1ortof the support, a locking bolt rotatable in said opening and provided with a notched portion, a post verticall movable in saidsupport and, slidably interlocked therewith to prevent rotary movement of said post, regularly sp'aced transverse grooves being formed in said post that are selectively engaged by said bolt to prevent longitudinal movement thereof, a work support adjustably'connected to said post, and
means for rotating the locking bolt. 2. A lifting jack comprisi g a movable 'lZrly spaced transverse grooves, an ecoelit; e"
hollow x extending transyersely through one'side of the upper portion of said support and adapted to scloctivelyengage said groovm: to prevent vertical movement of said post,
means for rotating said bolt, and Work supporting means carried by said post.
3. A lifting Jack comprising a lmse support provided with a boss, 21 lot-king bolt i-ovent longitudinal movement in the bolt, a i
post longitudinally movable in the support i nnd provided with means adapted to be enganged by said bolt to prevent longitudinal j movement of said post means for rotating 2 said bolt, and Work SHIZpOl'tIng means carried by said. ost.
#1. A lifting jack oompli 'ing n hollow support, an eccentric looking bolt (attending trunsvorsely across tho upper portion thereof, a post longitudinally zuljuntubh: in said sl'l'pport and provide-d with grooms-(hut are engaged by said bolt to lock tho post to said support, said bolt and the oppor portion of tho support being y'n'ovid d with coopoinh ing moans to indicate the position of said bolt Ielntivge to tho grooves of tho post and work supporting moans adjustably connected to the post.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the prosonoo of two Witnesses). HENRY C. MANNY. \Vitnesses:
