Application filed August 16, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Acxss li-lAJnnnIK, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Henncpin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and usefulimprovement-s in Life'Saving Devices, of which the followingis a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawin This invention relates to water'wings, es peeially designed to facilitate teaching swimming and as a 13 saving device that can be used siniilar'to' an ordinary buoyant life saver ordinarily carried by large ocean going vessels.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a flexible collapsible water wing vith novel means whereby it can be inflated and easily strapped to the body, in the vicinity of the shoulders of the body, he e v by the upper part of the body will be niaiin" tained afloat upon wateri-aither when being taught or learning to swim or when an accidcnt occurs that requires the use of a life saving device.
A. further object of this invention is to provide a life saving device of the above type that is simple in construction, durable, easy to apply to the body and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
l attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the draiiring, wherein l 5 Figure 1 is a front elevation of a water wing in :ucordance with this invention. Fig. 2 a cross sectional view of the same taken on the line [l -ll of Fig. 1., showing the wing collapsed. Fig. 3 is a similar viewof the wing inllaled, and Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the water wings as inflated.
A life saving device in accordance with this invention comprises two integral Wings that are generally designated 1. The wings are made of two pieces of flexible Water- Specification of Letters Patent.

proof material, as silk rubber and one piece I of naterial forms a straight rear-wall 2. Th s rear wall is capable of being collapseolg as shown in Fig. 2 and the other piece 0 material has the edged thereof stitched or otherwise connected to the wall 2, as at 3."
4 with a flexible filling tube 5 and air can be blown or pumped into the neck a to influte the wings 1. The. tube 5 can be tied with a piece of cord or otherwise closed to retain the air within the wings 1. Theneck "a of the life saving device has tab 6 and stitched or otherwise connected to said tab, as at 7 is a strap 8, one end of s'aidstrap having a button 9 and the other end a but ton hole 10, said button and button hole constituting means whereby the strap 8 can be fastened around llbebody, adjacent to the arm pits, whereby-the life saving'device will be supported upon the back in proximity to the shoulder blades or neck.
The life saving device when collapsed can be folded and readily carried in the pocket, and when inflated with air, the wings 1 present sutficient, area upon thesurface of water to support a body.
\Vliat I claim .is:; I ;A-life saving device comprising a 'pair oh-oppositely disposed inflatable Wings substantially oval'shape in cross section and gradually increasing in area toward each terminus, the forward Wall of each wing being rounded and the rear wall substandeflated. ai'i'oval-shaped nbclr portion of the I same area throughout. hierging inthe inner a; person."
