Description

Losetas.
To all 'tb/tom e' may concern:
Be it known that l, CHARLES F. ARN- Hous'r, a citizenofl the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State' of illinois, have invented certain nevi7 and useful Improvements in 1gniting Gas-Burners, oi which the .following a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in igniting gas burnersv by an electric spark,
especially where it is required to ignite a series of burners.'A
` ing the pair of primar `lower yokes for closing 'secondary bus oar 13 und the A further vobject of my -invention is to provide an arrangement of parts that will oder a compact 'and practical construction and simple arrangement nections.
With these objects in view, my invention relates to the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
My invention will he best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and' in whichw I y Figure l is a conventional view of the arrangement of the burner, spark Cpluggswitch mechanism, induction coil, an the correspending;` electrical connections, the switch mechanism being shown in section, Fig. 2 is a view looking down Fig-1, showing the singley secondary bus bar and the series of separate contacts, also showing the connecting yokes for the secondarj,r circuits, and Fig. 3 is a similar view looking down from line y y of Fig. l, show- 'bus bars and the he primary circuit.'
The preferred form of construction of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Each 'of the gas burners l carries in a suitable manner an insulating bushing 2 at one side thereof. inserted in" said hushing ,2- and adjustably secured by the locknuts 3 and fi is a metallic rod 5 forming a spark gap 6 with the gasburner l. The switch mechanism comprises a faceplate 7, brackets 8 secured thereto extending ver-v tically and supporting in a superposed relation two loaseplates 9 and 10 .of insulating material. The primary bus hars 1l and 12 are mounted upon the 'oase plate l0. The
series of separate contact points is are mounted upon the base i plurality ot push button rods eX- tcnd through the face plate 7 and the bases Specification of Letters Patent. Application sedentary 1e,A i912. semi no, 672,185.
of electrical conn* of, 'the .secondary winding being grounded. The primary bus hars are connected into the from line a: ot
patented Jan. 12.1, 1913.
Y 9 and 10, and rest upon springsldA supported by pistes 16 secured to the under side of base plate 10. Upon eachirod are secured yokes 17e-nd 18., the lower yoke 17 being adapted to connect the primary bus bars; Each of the upper yokes. 18connects a corresponding one ofthe contact -plates 14' tothe secondary bus har 13. The induction coil 19 1s of the'usuc-l form, comprising a primary Winding and a secondary winding.
20 isa three-celled battery. Each one of the spark plugs 5 is connected to a. corresponding' one of the Contact plates 14.. The secondary bus bar 13'is connected to a terminal of the secondary Winding 'ci ther-induction coil, the remaining termina-1 primary circuit of the induction coil, as shown in Fig. 1.y
In operation, when it is desired to ignite`v one of the fburners, the gas being supplied thereto, the corresponding pushl button rod 1s pushed down. Its lower yoke 17 will lclose the primary circuit-ofthe induction coil, and its upper yoke 18 will connect the spark plug of the burner to the terminal of the'secondary'winding of the induction coil.
`Since the remaining terminal of the secondary. Winding is grounded, .a spark will be caused to jump across thev spark gap at the burner and instantly ignite the. gas.
I While I have illustrated and :described the preferred form of construction for carrying' my invention into effect, this is capable of variationl and modification withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention. ,'I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set(l forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the. appended claims.
Having described my inventiomwhat `claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. The combination-.with a plurality of.
cel
2. The combination with a pair of insulating plates; of parallel bus bars arranged upon one of said plates; Contact plates and a bus bar arranged upon the remaining insulating plate; a Contact yoke arranged adjacent to each insulating plate for cooperation with the Contact elements and bus bars mount.- efl thereon; anal means for the simultaneous operation of each yoke cooperating with saidA parallel bus bars and its corresponding yoke cooperating 'with said bus bar and one Contact plate.
3. The combination with a pair ot' insulating plates; of a bus bar and a plurality of Contact plates mounted upon the upper insulated plate; a plurality of bus bars mounted upon the lower insulating plate; yokes connecting the Contact plates and bus bar of the upper plate and the bus` bars of the lower plate; and means for simultaneously operating each yoke connecting said plurality of bus bars and the yoke immediately above it which connects said bus bar and one Contact plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
