"" all whom '5 may concern:
Be-itQ-knownthat I, OTTO l HAHN, aoitieenof the United States; residing at San Eranoisco in thegcount-y of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new fend useful i Gear Shifting-Lever Look, of whieh thefoll'ou-ing is aspecification in such full and el earterms as will enable those seine. r v 1 invention relates to lock for the gear shifting lever in annutoinobile andits object is to provide a loci: which vvill prevent :the machine from being operated when the ock has been placed thereon.
A other object of the invention is to pro dude a lock which may be very easily adapttit different i lfil lfiS of shifting l'w'ers.
the draw in which the same numeral of reference is applied to the same portion throughout the several-views,Figure liis a. plan View of the lock showing the lever to WlllCll it is applied in section. Fig.
. 2 is a. plan View of the lock partly in sec t-ion. Fig. 3 is a View of the movable liasp looking from the inside. Fig. e-is a side elevation of the lock with the hasp reopposite end of the b0( y from the has'pB is hinged at 4. In order to .moved. 5 is an end VlGW of the lock. Fig. 6 shows the lock applied to the lever of an automobile.
Fig.7 is a plan view partly in section of a slightly modified form of the lock, Fig. 8 is a side elevation of the movable hasp used on the lock shown in Fig. 7, and Fig. 9 is a side elevation of the lock shown in Fig. 7 with the hasp removed 'therefrmn.
The lock comprises a body portion 1 in which a cylinder lock 2 is plat-ed. At the I lock. a readily cha "e the lock to accommodate the opening between the hasp and the body to dif ferent sized levers, the body is formed .Flllll a ;fiange at the top and bottom thereof as indicated at 5 and the hasp is provided with a flange at top and bottom as indicated at 6. These flanges being coinparativel; narrow. it is a sinipte matter to change the e of the opening betneen the hasp and body of the lock with very little filing v The lock operates on a slid ngbolt 7 and the lock bod provided with a notch and a pro ection: 3. the has-p having pro- ;Zection v-c-hich ti"; into the notch The sliding ift 7 attends from a projecting "killed in the artto construct and use the the flanges at. top and bottom thereof cover the two project-ions 9 and 11 in SllOllR-HIHIF ie sliding bolt? shoulder 11, and the hasp is so' formed that The bod vu'of the lock has :1 depending. tongue 12 with a notch 13 formed therein.
This tongue is also provided With-a pin it near the center thereof for a purpose to be explained. The hasp has a tongue- 15 de- A pending tlieretrom opposite the tongue 12.1-
Thechange gear lever of an aut-ouiobileiis indicated at' ltl and the arc-shaped plate over which it moves is shown at 17, while two of the positions the lever niav occup are indicated at 18 and 19. i i
In using the lockftlie opening between the hasp and body of the lock is made slightly larger than the lever to which it is to be applied. The lock is opened and one tongue is pushed doi'vn over the are-shaped plate 17, the pin ll being engaged in a hole in said arc-shaped plate, whereupon the. liasp is closed. This will effectually pre-l vent any lateral movementor forward movement of the lever.
It will be understood that in some forms of machines it is possible to secure the lever in a fixed position Without-the use of the pin H, in \vhich'event it is simply tiled off.
In Figs. .7, 8, and 9 there is shown a slightly modified form of the invention in which the lock body is shown at 20, the.
cylinder look at Qland the sliding belt at :22. In this term of the invention the hasp 23 is hinged to the body of the lock at 2% adjacent the lock cylinder 21. The hasp 23 isprovided with a projecting tongue 25, which passes into an opening int-lie lock bodyadjacent the sliding bolt. This form of the invention olifers equal advantages avith the other form in thatthe lock itself is Having thus-described my invention What I claim as neiv and desire to secure by Le ters Patent of the United States, is as fol lows 1. In a lock for gear shifting levers, a
body having a hasp pivoted thereto to sur round said lever, and means projecting from the beep and body to prevent the lever from being moved when the lock is'epplicd to the lever, as described.
2. In a lock for gear shitting levers, a body having a lock therein, a beep pivoted to said body and having a projecting tongue to be secured to the body by said lock, and a projecting member cnrriedby said body and by said hasp for securing the lock and lever surrounded thereby in'e fixed position, as described.
3'. In a lock for gear shifting levers, a'
body having a lock therein, ehesp pivoted to said body and adapted to be locked thereagainst, a notched tongue and a. straight tongue depending from the lock body and hasp to secure said lever in a fixed position, as described. i e
4. In at lock for gear shifting levers, a

emme lock body having a lock therein, a. flanged hasp pivoted to said lock body, said flanges covering the bolt of said look when the heap is closed, a notched tongue and a straight tongue depending from the lock body and tongue to secure the 'rlever surrounded by 40 said lock body and he'sp in a fixed position, as described.
In. testimony whereof: I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day otMarch A. D. 1912,
