Be it known that I, HARRY J. MoGnE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Punxsutawney, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Overshoe- Retainers, of which the following is a specificat'ion.

This invention relates to overshoe retainers and has for an object to provide a device of this character that can be readily applied to a shoe of ordinary construction and which will serve to efiectually hold the overshoe against accidental slipping from the foot or from being drawn therefrom when walking upon muddy surfaces.

In this drawing forming a portion of this application and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :F igure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention to an overshoe. Fig. 2 is a side view of a por tion of the shoe showing parts in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the band support.

The overshoe 1 herein shown is provided adjacent to the heel portion and at the back thereof with a strapping support 2 on which is formed an outer relatively broad sustaining surface 3 which extends at an angle with relation to the heel of the shoe for a purpose to be hereinafter explained. The said member 2 carriesintegral spurs 4t which are driven through the back of the overshoe, and clenched or upset thereagainst as shown in Fig. 1 whereby the support is eifectually held in an applied position. At the lower termination of the surface 3 and extending from the member 2 is a shoulder 5 which is disposed preferably at right angles to the plane of the surface 3 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing, forming a stop against which the lower edge of the bight 6 of the retaining band 7 engages so as to hold the same out of direct contact with the shoe and thereby insuring the latter against injury. The said bight portion 6 of the band embraces the surface 3 of the support 2, being wholly in contact therewith so that the band is sustained at such angle with relation to the heel of the shoe as will facilitate the oaeration of connecting the device with the -oot. ports the band in proper position to insure a perfect clamping of the same against the foot as shown in Fig. 1. A stud 8 extends from the surface 3, being passed through the bight 6 of the band 7 and upset thereagainst to thereby serve as a fastener in the permanent connection of the band with the supporting member as is evident. The terminals of the band 7 are adjustably connected together through a fastening element 9 which preferably includes a lever 10 on one of the terminals and parallel spaced slots 11 in the other terminal. The lever may be inserted through the desired slot according to the adjustment desired and then brought to the position shown in Fig. 1 so that both terminals of the band will be operatively connected with each other.

I claim 1. An over-shoe, a supporting member secured to the shoe at the back thereof and at a point above the plane of the tread of the ieel, said member having a surface extending at an angle with relation to the tread of the heel an ankle embracing element secured to the angularly disposed surface of the supporting member for the purpose specified, and a shoulder disposed at the lower terminal of said angularly disposed surface and engaging against the lower edge of the band to hold the same out of contact with the shoe.

2. An overshoe, a supporting member secured to the shoe at the back thereof and at a point above the plane of the tread of the heel, said member having a surface extending at an angle with relation to the tread of the heel, an ankle embracing element secured to the angularly disposed surface of the supporting member for the purpose specified, a shoulder disposed at the lower terminal of said angularly disposed surface and engaging against the lower edge of the band to hold the same out of contact with the shoe and a stud extending from said surface and through the band and upset at one side thereof.
