SAFETY DEVICE FOR WARING-PPAREL.

' Wearing-Apparel, of which the following is a specification.
This inventionI relates to an improved safety-device for securing wearing apparel 4against. theft, which has the advantage that it can beemployed without the use of a key or the like.
-The essenceof the invention yconsists in that the front ends of the Wearing apparel can belocked by means of a clamping device in 'such a way that it cannotbe put on, while in the casing of the clamping device anialarm "device is arranged which is set in action upon any attempt of an incompe tent personto unlock the safety device.
The accompanying drawing shows the Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 a. plan view, of the same, while Fig. 3 is a sectional plan on the line A-B of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 shows a detail.
In a casing 1 two axles 2 and 3 are rev olubly mounted at a suitable distance from each other, one end of said axles projecting beyond the top 4o'i the casing and carrying there each a disk 4 and 5 with numeral or letter divisions thereon. The projecting ends of said axlesare thinner than their inner partsthe` disks being firmly pressed upon the step thus formed by means. of a milled-edged nut 6 and 7. Okn their lower` inner ends, the axles carry fixed disks 8 vand 9, the circumferences of which are adapted to engage withl the lateral recesses 10 and 11 of a iiat bolt 12 passed through anopen ing in the bottom of the'casing, whereby said bolt is locked, it being able to be disengaged from the disks by notches 8 and 9 provided'in the latter. The forward movement of rod 25 is effected in that a pull is exerted on the wearing apparel, which is clamped between the grippers 1 6 and 24, for instance when an attempt is made to remove the wearing apparel rom'the grippers. Consequently the alarm device is operated as soon as an attempt is made to bring the secured wearing` apparel out'ofconnection with the safety-device, The arresting of the spring motor is eit'ected'by moving the ed by a movement' of the rod 30 in the direction of arrow b in Fig, 3, the lever 28 being thereby also turned on its fulcrum 2T and the pawl 33 brought out of gear with the ratchet wheel 'The rod 30 is connected with a headed bolt 39, which is guided in the wall of the casing l. tween the latter and the head 40 of said bolt, a spiral spring 41 is located on the latter, while from the `eye-end 42 of said bolt. a chain 43 is suspended, which at its vother end can be connected with ahook 44 arranged on the end of lever l5. Upon a pull against the action of spring 41 being exerted on said chain 43, which is to be passed through a button-hole of the Wearing apparel to be secured and by which the latter with the safety-device can be suspended from a Wardrobehook, also the rod 30 is so moved that by the same the pawl 33 is brought out of gear with the ratchet wheel 3Q and the alarm device is set in operation. Upon the pull on the chain 4? being ceased, the spring 4l moves the bolt 39 automatically back into its position of rest antl at the Same time the rod 30 is moved that the pawl 33 is again brought into gear with the ratchet Wheel An opening of the safety-device cannot be effected until the disks 5 and 9 are disengaged from the bolt 12.
With the aid of a pointer 45, the disks may be set to a certain numeral or letter for "their being opened, so that the owner only is able to quickl)7 remove the safetywlevice, for which purpose any numeral or letter on the disks can be chosen and altered from time to time, as the disks 4 and 5 are movable on the axles '2v and 3 and can be turned thereon after loosening the nuts tl and 7.
The improved safety-device can be also used for locking all kinds of articles, such as for instance bicycles or the like.
Having fully described my invention,
what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is i A safety-device for locking Wearing apparel, and the like, comprising in combination, a pair of clamping members, one xed and the other movable, a casing to carry the fixed clampingl member, a slide with roughened gripping surface movably arranged in the face of the fixed member, a rod lixed to said slide and arranged to lead into said casing, a blade spring with an indentation on said rod, a spring motor in said casing, means to arrest the latter by said rod, an alarm bell connected with said spring motor, means to operate said bell by the latter upon the rod being forcibly withdrawn from the motor, a headed bolt carried by the movable clamping member and adapted to project into said casing, two revoluble axles in said casing each designed to project at one end from the same, a revolnble notched disk keyed on each axle adapted to lock said bolt and to disengage the same at a certain position of the disks only, an adjustable numeral disk on the outer end of each axle. a nut on each axle to fix the numeral disks thereon, a pointer between said disks, a hook on the free end of said movable clamping member, a spring bolt on the end of said casing opposite to the clamping members, a chain connected to said spring bolt and adapted to be hung into said hook, and connections between said spring bolt and rod, all for the purpose set forth.
