To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUNDER G. MANDT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of ,Waterloo, Blackhawk county, Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Standards for Boxes of Manure-Spreaders, of which the following is 'a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in standards for the boxes of manure spreaders, and the object of my improvement is to furnish a standard which is adapted to be 7 firmly secured and locked to the side-board of a manure spreader. This object 'I have accomplished by the means which are hereinafter described and claimed, and which are illustrated in the acompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved standard. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of said standard, and of its connec- -ti0ns to parts of a manure spreader box, .the. side-board of the latter being shown intransverse section and other parts being broken away. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of said standard, taken on a line a/b of Fig. 1.

I My improved standard is especially designed for use with the box of a manure spreader. As shown in Fig. 2, the sideboard 23 of such a box has its lower edge seated in a longitudinal angle-bar 11 whose horizontal flange is turned inward, the horizontal flange of said bar being secured to the end of a crossor bed-bar 14 by means of a rivet 16, the said bed-bar being an angle-bar whose inner angle fits over another cross-bar 15. p

The standard comprises an upright 1 having a web 17 on its outer face terminating in a thickened rib part 2. The upright and its web is widest at the bottom with its base resting upon the upper face of the bed-bar 1 1, a bolt 8 and nut 13 serving to secure its base to both said bars 14.- and 15. The

and which receive respectively the bolts or rivets 20 21, 22 and 9, the latter being a headless bolt secured at either end by the nuts 10 and 12, and the latter bolt also serving to secure the upper flange. of the anglebar 11 between both the standard 1 and the side-board 23. The web 17 is thickened at 18 in each instance to afford a stronger and wider body, for the bolt-holes insaid standard.

In order to more firmly lock the upright 1 to said side-board 23, I have provided on the inner face of said upright in juxtaposition to said side-board, a projection 3 having the form of a downwardly depending hook 4, which is adapted to fit over the. upper edge of the angle-bar 11 when said parts are assembled. The said hook holds the angle-plates 11 securely against displacement upwardly and with the other securing means, makes the combined structure more rigid and prevents any'working loose of any of said parts when under the heavy strains of service.
