To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J oxsrnsx. J onxsos, of Lowell, in the county ofMiddlesex, in the State of Massa chusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pads for Horses Feet, of which the following is a. full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the-accompanying drawing making part of this specification, in which- 1Figure 1, sheet 1, is a bottom view of the pad app re Figure 2 is a side elevation;

In applying my improvement to some forms of horses feet, where the soles are flat, and-project down ward, very little space exists for packing. In such cases, pad B, fig. 5, sheet 2, as shown, will accommodate such deformity, and support theqnantity of packing required, and maybe used with single or double fastenings, as shown, and applied to the toe-band.

My invention consists in an improved mode or means of holding a pad to a horses foot, the toe-band A, made of leather, rubber, or metal, being the chief and leading object presented, as shown in figs. 1, A, 2, A, and 4, A, sheet 1, and figs. 5, A, 6, A, sheet 2, passing over the front of the hoof and shoe, connecting with the pad B, underneath the foot, for the purpose of holding it securely. I

Then leather or rubber are used, they may be pro; tected from wear by metal plates (0 a, fig. 1, sheet 1, and is adapted for either a calked or slipper shoe.

I alsoconnect with the pad B, (see fig. 6,) at or near the heel, with either strap F, chain 0, wire 12, or

spring D, as may best conform to the foot, sometimes cnnnecting the heel fastenings at the sides f f, corners M M, one-enter N of pa'd B, as shown in fig. 6, sheet 2.

Pad vB, fig. l, is substantially thesame as my former. patent, dated May 4,1869, with the toe-band and heel-t'astenings applied.

The toe-baud A may be applied to a pad with or without the absorbent packing. The pad may cover the whole of the bottom of the hoof and shoe, or the frog and inner sole only. Connections, shown at the heel of pad B, fig. 6, are changeable and adjustable from one point to another, as shown, and may be of any material required, in fastening as may best accommodate the foot, all hav ing the same relation to the toe-band A.

When straps are used, I employ a spring clamp, H, fig. 5, as the straps are not weakened by cutting buckle-holes.

In fig. 6, the links L L, bars 1) p, heel-spring d, either are used to prevent the packing from working out when not attached to thepad.

I also represent that, in order to realize all the advantages of my invention, 1 change the form of the shoe at the heel, by an outward incline, '1 T, as shown in fig. 3, in sucha manner that pressure causes a 1sliding action outward, makingroom for the expanded rug.

1 consider the plain fastening shown infigs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, sheet 1, preferable, and best adapted for general use. Persons acquainted with the care of horses will readily understand its application and use.

I claim, as follows: 7

'1. The toe-band A, and the elastic or spring corrnections D and F, in combination with the pad B, substantially as and for the purpose described. I

2. The protecting plates a, in combination with the toe-baqdA and the pad 13, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
