HORIZONTAL PIANO.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM SIEGEL, manufacturer, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing in Stade, near Hamburg, in Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Horizontal Pianos, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to horizontal pianos and has for its object a new arrangement of the sounding board and the set of strings. In contrast with the pianos of the said kind in use, the frame with the sounding board and the set of strings are inverted, and the hammers strike the strings from below. By this arrangement the sounding-board can be directly glued upon the frame, whereby that part of the sounding board which is lying before the bridges is gained for the sounding effect. Furthermore, the length of the horizontal piano can be shortened.
For carrying out my invention, I have illustrated an example of the new arrangement in the accompanying drawing which. shows the forepart of a horizontal piano, according to the invention, partly in section.

Having now fully described my invention and in what manner it is performed, what I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
A horizontal piano having the soundingboard fixed directly to the wrest-plank, the sounding-board below the frame and the set of strings on the lower side of the sounding-board, the hammers of the action striking the strings from below, substantially as and for the purpose described.
