i son., a citizen of the United States, residing kat jChicagdin the count-y oi' Cook and State ot llinois, have invented a new andusetul improvement in Car-Couplers, of which the following is a speciiication.

My invention relates to improvements in car couplers.

The object of my invention is to provide type of a simple, strong, eilicient and durable construction, in which thezlifting of the` lock to the required extent will automatically lifting of the lock will alsoV operate to cause it to engage the rear knuckle and set the lock in-position for` uncoupling;` and in which, by the lowering of the lock, the lower link ofthe lifting chain for preventing the lock from creeping. i

i My invention consists in the means l ernploy to practically accomplish or result, as -herein shown and described;

vthatis to say, it consists, in connection with the drawhead and pivoted knuckle, of avertically movable partially rotatable lck hav ing a laterally projecting arm adapted to engage the rear arm or tail ofthe knuckle to thro'w. theJ knuckle open, the draw head having a cam orincline for rotating the lock as it is raised, and the laterally projecting arm of 'therotatable lock having a lock set ledge or Yshoulder adapted to engage the `rear arm orrtail of the knucklefto set the lock in position for uncoupling, the cam or incline on the draw head also serving to turn the lock into position to cause the lock-set: on the lock to ositively engage the rear arm or tail of the. uckle, and the lock being provided at its upper end with a slot. having an inclined bottomiwhi'ch operates inconjunctionWith-the lower link of the `lifting 4chaingto cause the end of saidlink to project underv a, shoulder on the draw head to prevent creeping of'the lock when 'it is in its lowermost position.
