MOLD FOR CASTING FINISHING ROTARY PRINTING-PLATES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application tiled October 31, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, ARNOLD EGLI, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Pla-uen in Vogtland, in the Kingdom of Saxony and German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds for Casting and Finishing Rotary Printing- Plates, of which the following is a specification.
' My invention relates to a'mold for easting and finishing rotary printing plates in which the plate is held and prevented from becoming detached from the core on opening the apparatus, that is to say, on removing the core from the mold box by means of slides arranged on the back of the semicylindrical casting core and movable perpendicularly to its longitudinal axis and having noses which project beyond the surface of the core and are embedded in the casting.
Hitherto, channels were formed on the surface of the casting core so that on cooling the .plate shrunk onto the core and was held upon it when the casting-mold was opened. The plate had therefore to be de tached from the core forcibly.
The object of my invention is, by means of the said slides, which during the casting of the plate project with their noses beyond the face of the core directed toward the casting mold, so that the noses are embedded in the casting, to hold the plate upon the core when the casting mold is opened while by drawing back the slides the plate can readily be lifted.
An embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
- which Figure 1 shows the casting core in elevation. Fig. 2 is a section thereof through the .as usually is arranged coaxially in the cast-- ing box 9, and comprises channels 2 onits rounded surface, which channels do not,
however, cause the shrinking-on of the plate on cooling, grooves are cut inwhich the slides 3 are able to move between the cover bars 4 and the core 1. The pins 5 which engage in the slots 6 of the slides 3 limit to the correct amount the movement of the slides caused by means of the studs 7. The noses 8 of the slides 3 when they are drawn out project into the casting space, that is beyond the face of the core, directed toward the castingbox 9 and are embedded in the casting during the casting of the plate 12 in the mold constituted by the core 1, the co-axial casting box 9 and the matrix 10 arranged therein, the matrix locks 11 and the cover bars 4. On opening the mold the cast plate 12 is held on the core 1 by the slides 3 and when these slides are drawn back by means of the studs 7 the plate can readily be lifted from the core. Before each casting operation the slides are returned to the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
I claim as myinvention--v 1. Mold for casting curved printing plates, comprising a stationary vertical mold box,
a core parallel therewith and arranged coaxially therein, slides arranged in said core and capable of projecting beyond the face of said core, and pins in said core engaging slots in said slides to limit their movement.
2. Mold for casting curved printing plates, comprising a stationary vertical mold box, a core parallel therewith and arranged coaxially therein, slides arranged in said core and capable of projecting beyond the face of said core, and pins in said core engaging slots in said slides to limit their movement, and a stud on each slide for moving it back and forth.
3. Mold for casting curved printing plates, comprising a stationary mold box. a core arranged therein co-axially therewith, slides in said core, a nose formed on each slide and adapted to project beyond the face of said core, and pins in said core engaging slots in said slides to limit their movement.
4. Mold for casting curved printing plates, comprising a stationary mold box,- a core arranged therein co-axially therewith, slides in said core, a nose formed'on each slide and adapted toproject beyond the face of said .core; and pins in said core engaging slots In testimony whereof I have affixed my 1 signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARNOLD EGLI.
