To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, CoLBY'B. Lows, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mallard, in the county of Palo Alto, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 'in Hay-Stacker-Tongue Supports; and I do ,hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which-it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in means for supporting draft poles or tongues, and the leading object of the invention is the construction-of a simple attachment for holding a draft pole or tongue from contact with the ground. 7

Another object of the invention is the construction of a draft pole. or tongue having a pair of stop wheels mounted on therear end thereof and adapted to contact or engage thereby removed from the wagon or vehicle frame. Referring to the accompanying drawings 5 denotes the front axle of a wagon orv vehicle frame on which a cross member 6 of any conventional form is arranged. .The

member 6 is shown formed with a recess 7 adapted to receive the rear end 8 of the draft pole 9. The rear end 8 of the draft pole 9is slightly rounded and a bearing plate or member 10 having a centrally disposed eye 11 is rigidly mounted on said rounded end. A pivot bolt 12 extends through the eye 11 and pivotally connects the rear end 8 of the draft pole to the front member 6 of the wagon or vehicle frame. Rearwardly of the equalizing bar 13 which carries the usual whiflietrees 1 1' a pair of 1. In combination with a draft having its rear end pivotally secured to'the plates 15 are boltedto the opposite sides of the draft'pole or tongue 9, the ends ofthe plates'bemgbent inwardly to engage the edges of the draft poleortongue and being spaced apart from each other to receive the looped ends 16 of the hanger rods or bars 17;" The hanger rods or bars 17 extend rearwardly' toward the outer ends of the front cross member 6 of the vehicle or wagon frame and the rear ends of said hanger bars or rods are angularly disposed to form connecting pins or pivots 18 which are disposed in openings or sockets formed in the front cross member 6, and the front ends of the hanger rods or bars are pivotally connected by means of bolts 19 with the outer ends of the plates 15. Through the medium of the hanger bars or rods 15 the draft pole or tongue 9 will be supported'on the front cross member 6 above the car.

Adjacent to the rear end ofthe draft pole or tongue but forwardly of the front cross member 6 two plates 20 are bolted,the outer ends of said plates being bent'inwardly toward each other and being provided with wheel stops21 which are adapted to engage with the forward edge of the cross member said member and are provided to limit the sidewise or lateral movement, whereby the '6 when the tongue 9 is moved sidewise on draft tongue will be held in a substantially central position at, or nearly at right angles to the cross member 6. The wheel stops 21 are especially useful in preventing lateral movement on the draft tongue of the vehicle frame when a driver is backing his vehicle.

The improved device will be found especiallyuseful in connection with hay stacker tongues and can be readily applied and removed from such or other tongues.

It is of course understood that whenjthe tongue 9 is adapted to havepivotal action on the pivot12 engaged through the eye 11,

the braces 17 are either disengaged from the v cross member 6.,or from the plates 15 but when it is desired to hold the tongue stationary or immovable relative to the cross member 6, the braces 17 are engaged with the cross member6 and the plates 15, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

WVhat is claimed is forward member of a vehicle frame, a pair of plates mounted on the draft tongue forwardly of the rear end,said "plates having tongue their ends bent inwardly and spaced apart and hanger bars pivot-ally secured to said inwardly bent ends and extending rearwardly and being provided with angularly disposed ends pivotally and removably connected thereby to the front cross member whereby disengagement of the bars from the ends or cross member by pivoting the same will allow pivotal movement of the tongue.

2. In combination with a draft tongue having its rear end pivotally secured to the front and cross member of a vehicle frame, a pair of plates mounted on the rear portion of the draft tongue having its ends bent inwardly to engage the edges of the draft tongue, stop wheels mounted on the ends of said plates and adapted to engage with the front edge of the forward cross member, a pair of plates mounted on the draft tongue forwardly and dlstantly of the first plates and having their ends bent inwardly to engage the sides of the draft tongue, and hanger bars pivotally secured at their forward ends to the inwardly bent ends of the last plates and extending rearwardly toward the front cross member, the rear ends of said hanger bars being angularly disposed and pivotally secured thereby to the front cross member, said hanger bars being adapted to be disengaged from the cross member to permit pivotal movement of the tongue whereby said stop wheels will limit the angle of pivot of the tongue.
