useful Improvements in Brake-Block Holders; and I do hereby declare the following skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.v
This invention relates to devices for securing the brake-block to the brake-beam or brake-lever of a vehicle; and it consists of pivoted bell-crank levers which grip the brake-block andwhich are clamped upon it byimprove'd'operating devices as hereinafter fully described and'claimed. In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of an end portion of a brake-beam or brakelever provided with fastening devices for the brake-block according to this invention.

The brake-beam or brake-lever 2 is of any approved kind such as used on vehicles.
Four similar bell-crank levers 3 are pivoted tothe beam and are arranged right and left and in pairs. These levers have pivot pins or bolts 4 which have heads 5 at one end, and shoulders 6 and screwthreaded portions 7 at the other end. Two of the. bell-crank levers have screwthreaded hubs 8 whichare screwed on the parts 7, against the shoulders 6, so that nuts are dispensed with. These bell-crank levers have'jaws 10 at one end which engage with the brake-block 11, and the jaws are preferably serrated so that the block cannot slip. V l
Clamping bolts 14 are providedhaving sockets 15 which engage with the other end portions 16, and the end portions have lateral projections 17 which retain the sockets in position.
A plate 18 is arranged at the back of the beam 2, and this plate has elongated holes or slots 19 for the clamping bolts, so that it can be used on beams of difiierent thickness.
hen the fastening devices are constructed 7 in this manner, they are greatly simplified, and cost very little to manufacture, and at the same time are very efficient in action. What I claim is: I 1. The combination, with a brake-beam, and a brake-block; of bell-crank levers pivoted to the beam and arranged in pairs at opposite sides thereof, each pair of bellcrank levers being provided at one end with jaws for engaging with the brake-block and having their other end portions arranged substantiallyin alinement with each other, a clamping plate engaging with the brakebeam, and two clamping bolts havingnuts at one endand rectangular sockets at the other end which engage pivotally with the alined end portions of the pairs of bellcrank levers.
2. The combination, with a brake-beam, and a brake-block; of bell-crank levers pivoted to the beam and arranged in pairs at opposite sides thereof, each pair of bellcrank levers being provided at one end with jaws for engaging with the brake-block and having their other end portions arranged substantially in alinement with each, other, each alined end portion having also a laterally projecting stop or guide, a clamping plate engaging with the brake-beam, and two clamping bolts having nuts at one end and rectangular sockets at' the other end which engage pivotally with the alined end portions ofthe pairs of bell-crank levers and work between the said laterally projecting stops or guides.
