Be it known that We, THoMAs CHRISTIAN THOMSEN, subject of the King of tjweden` London, England, and ARTHUR A v' oi' England, at Lancashire, England, have innew and useful Improvements in Force-Feed Lubricators, or" which thejollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in force feed lubricators, one object being to provide a lubricator 'n which each pump and its operating mechanism is immersed 1n oil,l and the. valve bon is situated without the oil casing so as to permit of ready inspection and cleaningof the valves or" each pump.
@ther objects are to provide means by which the'plunger of each pump can be operated by hand inc lependently of the mainv operating mechanism, and means by which the stroke of each plunger can be readily r operation, said band and stroke adjusting' means without the oil casing normally reciprocated of the pump barrel by being operable from e pump plunger is over a certain stretch the operating mechanism Within the ing, but when a sudden excess orfilush ot oil is required the plunger is adapted to be reciprocated by hand over a different and preferably longer stretch of the pump barrel. By this means, and in vieuY of the hand operating meansfbeing independent of the normal operating mechanism, the stroke adjusting means need not be interfered with after it- .hes ence been set accurately to suit casing near the bottom thereof so that the barrels are immersed in oil.
barrel is provided with a valve box which block e, integral with each` barrel, the block being oil eas-4 hole 1n one side of the tended Dee, l 1%.?, serial no. assess.
bored so as to form a suction passage d, and a delivery passage e. Each block' c, is fitted against the outer surface of one side ,of the oil casing a, being secured by suitable means such as screws j". The suction anddelivery passages are provided with suitable valves such as ball valves, It is preferred to use two suction valves 57, it, and two deliver valves z', la. The valves g. la., are preferably mounted in a plug Z, which is'screu'ed into the suction in aliiieinent soA that Whenl the plug Z. is rev moved both passages can be clearerlbyimeans of a wire or the like. f he suction passage rl, communicates with the oil casing a, by means of a lateral pas sage m, formed partly in the block 0, and partly djeocnt side of t e easing. The delivery valve fr, is preferably held to its seat during the suction stroke bye spring n, which maybe arranged conveniently with# in a nozzle o. A plunger g2, is lifted in each pump barrel and has a head Q, against which one end of a spring 77,' abuts, l The head g, preferably has a hardened steel face s, against which suitable operating mechanism Works to force in the plunger on the delivery stroke, the plunger eine; moved in the opposite direction'hy the spring r. The operating mechanism may be of any suitable kind such as an oscillating arm t, fitted with an impact ball u. the 'erm if, mounted on a shaft v, oscillated by a lever 'w as usual in force feed lubricetors, The shaftI 0, maybe retated as in some known forms of lubricator in which ease is provided with a cern (Fig. 3) the cam being preferably grooved' and fitted with e loose ring y. in one form the plunger go, has an extenj sion e, passingthrough the valve bon which f is provided with a packed glandQ (Fig. l), I the extension a, having a handle 3, on its end.
i. lock nut 6, is preferably provided to vent the nut 5, moving accidentally. The handle 3, permits of hand operation of the plunger 0, independently of the main operpre- Cfr
D lfor iushing pur ioses, und :is it reciprocates it also gives a visual indieetion of the @pei-ation and stroke of he plunger. will be noticed hel; when plunger is so operated by hund itinovesoier e stretch of ihe barrel difl'eren to and preferably longer than he initial siiech over Whioh the normal operating mechunismnioves ii. in this Way free hand opeuion is possible Without interfen ence- With the. normal stroke uiljusing means. Villen e plurziiity of pumps are used, as indicated in Fig. 9., each piungnr is independenlgv operable by hand.
The oil delivered by luough the nozzle o. v3/'hen a sight feed 'mbe 7, is used, he oii is guided in known meunerby u wire 8, suspended from o plug 9, screwed into the sieese l0, which `is secured io a bracket 11, The plug 9, hsepassnges 14, which conduct the oil to delivery pipe 15.
