Be it known that we, SAM 1).

In carrying out the invention there is provided a body member, consisting of a pair of curved plates'l, conforming to the rump of the horse.

Theforwardends of the bolts 12 are extended through lugs 15, upstanding from the plates 1, adjacent the forward ends of the plates. Wing nuts 16 are threaded upon theforwardends of the bolts 12, the wing nuts 16 being adapted. to engage the forward faces of the lugs 15. Helical springs17 surround the bolts 12, the springs abutting at their rear ends, against the lugs 11, and at their forward The operation of the device is'as follows. l Vhen the body member, comprising the plates 1, is mounted upon the rump of the animal, and secured thereon in any desired manner, as shown in Fig. 1, the tail of the animal is engaged by the tail-holder 8. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is i 1. A device of the class described compris- 2 ing a body member; a tail-holder pivoted to the bodymember; adjustable means for swinging the free upper end of the tailholder forwardly and resilient means for limiting the forward movement of: the upper end of the tail-holder after the same has been adjusted.

A device of the class described com- I prising a body member; a tail-holder pivotally connected with the body member; threaded elements united with the tail holder and loosely engaged with the body member; nuts upon the threaded elements, adapted to engage with the body member, to swing the free upper end of the tailholder forwardly; and compression springs surrounding the threaded elements, and bearing against the tail-holder and against the body member.

3. A crupper comprising cooperating parts, one of which parts is a body member, the other of which parts is a tail-holder pivotally connected with the body member; a threaded element engaged with one of said parts; a nut upon the threaded element, adapted to engage the other of said parts; and a compression spring surrounding the threaded element, and bearing against both of said parts.

4. A device of the class described comprising a body member provided with upstanding eyes; a tail-holder having bearings adapted to oscillate in the eyes; the

body member and the tail-holder being provided with outstanding lugs; a threaded element extended through the lugs, and having a head adapted to engage the lug of the tail-holder;'a nut upon the threaded element, adapted to engage the lug of the body member; and a compression spring surrounding the threaded member and abutting against the lugs.

5. A device of the class described comprising a body member; a tail holder pivotally connected with the body member; the body member and the tail-holder being provided with outstanding lugs; a threaded element extended through the lugs, and having a head adapted to engage with one lug; a nut on the threaded member, adapted to engage with the other lug; and a compression spring surrounding the threaded member, and abutting against the lugs.
