Description
E.' P. HINB,
WASHBASIN.
APPLIGATION FILED DBG. 13. 191).
Patented Dec. 17,.'1912.
K K O 517763K/ [Eina- ERNEST F. HINE, OF PORT KELLS, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
WASHBASIN.
To all whom t may concern:
*Be it known that I, ERNEST F .'l-IINE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, re-
"f'siding at Port Kells, in the Province of `British Columbia and Dominion of Canada.
nave invented a new and useful Improved Washbasin, of which the following 1s a specification.
This invention relates to improvement-s in valves and seats therefor, and the invention is finally directed to that class of valves employed in connection with wash stands or the like, the objectr of the invention being to provide a device of this class which is extremely simple in construction, whlch can be easily and quickly connected with a-pa1r of pipes, which can be manufactured at a' small cost and which is thoroughly eiiclent in operation.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. Y
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a central longitudinal sectional view of a` basin having my improved valve secured to sections of the outlet pipe thereof. Fig. 2
' is a detail sectional View of the valve, take upon an enlarged scale.
In the accompanying drawings, the valve has been illustrated in connection with a wash basin, but as heretofore stated the `valve is not restrictedrto this articular use as it will be apparent that t e said valve may be employed with equal eciency upon numerous other devices which are formed with pipe sections as an outlet.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates thev valve proper. This valve comprises a cylindrical casing 2 having an open bottom .and a partially closed `top 3. The top 3 is formed adj cent its opening 4t with a cage 5, the latter benig constructed of strips of suitable bendable material and are preferably f arranged at right angles one to the other. The members comprising the cage are each of a substantially U-shapcd formation and the arms 6 are adapted to project through suitable perforations 7 provided by the top 3 of the casing 2. f
i By reference to the figures of the drawing it will be noted that arm 6 of the member 5 is spaced for a vsuitable distance beyond the perimeter or wall formed by the Specication of letters Patent.

of the top 3. is adapted to serve as a seat proper for a disk valve 8. The valve 8 is adapted to fit' snugly within the cage 5 and toyengage the arms 6 of the sections com- 4prising the cage.
Tiie 'casing 2 has its exterior threaded as a-t\9, and the said threads are adapted to engaige interior threads formed upon bipe sections 10 and 11. These sections 10 and 1] are adapted to serve as the outlet for the basin 12. The casing 2 is formed with a with the walls formed by the said opening is the operating member 14 for the valve 8. This member has its longitudinally extend- .ing larm projecting a suitable distance bey yond the casing 2 and the said member has an integrally ormed vertically projecting member 15, the latter being provided with a rounded head 16 which contacts the under face of the valve 8,'and preferably at the center thereof.
In order to limit the downward movement of the operating member 14, the casing 2 is preferably provided with a transversely arranged rod or bar 17, the same being positioncd directly below the horizontal arm of the operating member, so that the head 16 of the member 15 does not atall times-com tact with the valve 8.
Securely connected to the operating mempreferably constructed of some suitable re-v silient material, so that its upper face or edge wipes the wall of the'cusing 2 directly above the opening 13 thereof and thus p're ventsr the water splashing through thev said opening when the valve 8 is operated. The inclined gua-rd or apron 18 .serves as a means member and consequentlylimits the movement of the valve 8 within the cage 5.
From the above description, taken in connection with'the accompanying drawings, the simplicity of the structure, method of application and mode of operation will be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, it being noted `that by providing the easing 2 Ywith threads upon its outer face, the same .may be fitted to interior threads formed vupon any pair of pipe sections, the sizeof the sections, of course, agreeing with the opening 4, and the said extending portion l perimeter of the casing, and while-I have ber 14 is a guard plate 18. This guard y plate is arranged at an angle to the vertical .f walls of the casing 2 and the said plate is,-
for limiting the movcmentof the operating suitable opening 13 and pivotally connected I v valve in .said cage illustrated 'and described the perferred em* bodiment of the improvement as it now appears to me, minor details of construction ivithingthefscope of the appended claim may be made, if desired. v l.
Havingthus fully described the invention, What l claim as new` is.:
The combination with a pipe including a plurality of sections, of a valve interposed between the sections7 sa'id valve including a casing, an inturned annular Hange formed at one end of the casing, a valve cage secured to said liange and spaced from the periphery el the opening vtherein and sur rounding a valve seat on theylange, a disk casing beingprovided `with i an opening, `an operating lever pivoted to the Walls of said adapted to eoperate with l 'theseat on Said flange/,etheside Wall of said said lever terminating in a right angular member, a rounded head integral with said memberadapted to engage said disk valve in the movement of the lever whereby to disengagethe valve from its seat, a rod extending transversely of the casing and adapted to limit the movement of the operating lever in one direction, and a guard plate carried byvsaid lever and composed of resilient material and adapted to Wipe the side Wall of the valve casing immediately to prevent adjacent the opening therein so as leakage through said opening.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature i' in presencev of two Witnesses.
