ATTORNEYS through UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH VEBGANO, OFSANTA RQSA, CALIFORNIA.
DEVICE FOR HOLDING AND DISPENSING BIVER KGES. I
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed Kay 8, 1912. Serial No. 685,870.
Patented Dec. 17, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH VERGANO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Santa Rosa, in the county of Sonoma and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Holding and Dispensing Beverages, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to devices for holding and dispensing beverages, my
object. being to provide -a barrel, tank or other receptacle or container, with a plurality of separate compartments adapted to contain liquids of diiferent characteristics, together with a. single dispensing faucet having communication with each of said receptacle or container compartments, and so constructed that a liquid from any one of the compartments may be dispensed without danger of admixture with the liquid of any other compartment.
With the foregoing in mind, my invention resides in the specific construction, arrangement and combination of.parts to be hereinafter described with respect to the ac-. companying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section the devices which constitute my invention; Fig. 2 is a detail transverse section, on an enlarged scale-,taken through a portion of the dispensing faucet, on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the turning plug of the faucet removed; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the plug shown in Fig. -3.
Referring now specifically to these figures,-
1) adapted to extend through the container or receptacle partitions, a, a and a and to thus pass through the receptacle or container compartments A and A and within the container or receptacle compartment A.
The shank b is provided with a plurality of longitudinal liquid channels I), b and b n which are arranged in the same plane and V which communicate at one end with a. tapering transverse bore 12 formed in the outer headed end I) of the shank -b. The inner ends of the liquid channels b and b respectively open through the tapering wall of the shank 1), into the receptacle or container compartments A and A, and the liquid channel 6 opens through the end of theshank b, into the container or receptacle compartment A.
' Arranged within the bore 6' of the shank 1s a tapermg plug C having an upper shoulder 0 to rest upon the shank head I) and an upwardly extending stem 0 to which is secured the operating hand wheel 0 The plug 0 15 further provided with a lower threaded portion 0 for the reception of a nut 0 adapted to bear upwardly against the lower surface of the shank head 6 and is hollow throughout the major portion of its length, its bore 0 communicating with a plurality of radial openings 0, c" and c which are formed through the wall of the plug and are respectively in coincident planes with the liquid channels b 1) and b of the shank b. v
The radial openings 0, c and c are respectlvely in vertical alinementwith the numbered arrows 1, 2 and 3 arranged upon the upper surface of the operating hand Wheel as particularly shown in Fig. 4, so that when this hand wheel is turned with the arrow 1 pointing inwardlytoward the container or receptacle and in alinement with the longitudinal axis of the shank b, the plug opening 0 will be alined with the liquid channel 6 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and consequently liquid may be dispensed from the receptacle or tank compartment A, and from this it will be seen that the opsired liquid contained in the receptacle A.
independent of the other liquids contained therein and without danger of mixing the liquids.
I claim 1. The combination with a. container having a plurality of compartments, of a dispensing faucet comprising a shank adapted to extend into the several container compartments and having a plurality of independent liquid channels one of which opens into each of the said container compartments, and a hollow turning plug operating through one end of said shank and provided.
with a plurality of openings radiating from the lower end of the bore of which constitutes an outlet.
2. A dispensing faucet comprisin a shank having a plurality oflongitu inal channels open at one end through the wall of said shank at spaced points along the latter, said shank havinga head at one end provided with a tapermg transverse bore with which the opposite ends of the said channels communicate, a tapering plug mounted in the said bore and having a shoulder resting upon the said head and an upwardly extending stem, said plug also having a lower threaded portion and a central bore and provided with 'a pluralit of openings radiating through its wall rom its said bore and. arranged in planes coincident with said longitudinal channels, a nut adapted to engage the threaded portion of the plug and to bear upwardly against the lower surface of the shank head, and an op; erating hand wheel secured upon the up wardly projecting stem and provided with radial pointers arranged in the same vertical planes with the respectiveradial openings of the plug.
