Be it known that I,' GEORGE F. Sayers, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stokesville, in the county of Augusta and.

State of Virginia, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Paintdemovers, of which the yfollowing is a specification. Thisinvent-ion relates to new and useful `improvements in paint removers and lnore particularly to that class of paint removers where a .torch is used 'to loosenvthe paint and a chisel to 'follow forscraping the same.

Herebefore paint removers of this class consist-ed of a torch which was carried in one hand of the operator and a chisel t-o be carried in his oppositel hand which has been very disadvantageousand the primary object of this invention is to provide a device of this character whereby the torch and chisel may be vcombined in one tool and operated with one hand of the operator.

A further object of this invention is to simplify devices of this character, rendering them comparatively heap in manufacture.

A charge cup 8 is suitably secured to the feed pipe 6 anda usual turning valve 9 is mounted in said. burner`for operating the flow' of gasolene thereto. *A suitable chisel supporting member 10 is secured to the front end of the tank and has adjust` ably secured thereto a scraping chisel 11. This chisel is provided With a slot 12 at one end thereof which is adjustably secured to the supporting member 10 by means of a set screw 13. The forward end of this chisel is angularly bent as at 14 and terminates a short distance behind the flame from the burner 7 whereby the Haine of the burner first heats the paint and. loosens kthe same and the chisel closely follows to scrape the same. f

A spring supporting foot 15 is suitably secured by means of a clip 16 to the end of the tank 2 whereby one end of the tank may be supported -iu a raised position when filling the cln'irging cup, the said clip 16 having extensions 17 which form suit-able stops forthe supporting foot 15.

The above described paint remover is used generally for painters in doing house work vor other small work but where a great deal of work 1s to be done and more gasolene isto be carried by an operator l provide anlother form ofa paint remover `which is indicated generally by the numeral 1S. This modified form o'f my invention consists of a tank 19 made preferably of metal which is adapted to be supported over the back of theoperator by means of a strap which is secured to loops 20/,formed upon t-he top of the tank. A pressire'pump 21 isvmounted in the front end of the said tank and is provided with an octagonal collar 22 whereby the same may be removed in refilling the tank. The tool as used 'in the modified form of the invention consists of a handle 23 which is made of wood or any suitable asbestos material and has -extendingtherethrough afeed pipe 24 and the said handle is secured to said feed pipe by means of a collar 26. -A chisel supporting member-10 is mounted to thefront end of the said han- .dle and has rsecured thereto a chisel 11 and extending from the feed pipe 24,1is a' burner similar tothe burner described in theprefer-red form of the invention. .i flexible pipe connects the feed pipe S24 with a. pipe los 26a mounted at the lower end of the tank A19.;- This is provided with a cap 27 which has mounted `therein a suitable lterwhereby the oil from the tankmay be filtered before entering the burner as 1s common. In filling the charging cup of the burner I provide ,pn thetank a suitable supporting member which is secured to the said tank by means of a guide 28. This supporting member is made from one piece of wire having a loop 29 formed in one end thereof and ahook 30y in the opposite' end thereof whereby the same may be adjusted to and from the tank in supporting the said burner.

It will be seen from the foregoing description taken in connection Withthe accompanying drawings that I have provided a paint remover which is simple in construction and easy to operate and it is to be understood that there are other minor details of construction which may be resorted to withoutdeparting from the spirit of the in-' vention and which come within the scope of the' appended claims. A A

Having thus described my invention what I claim is l. In ya paint remover, a handle, a feed pipe extending therethrough, the front end of said feed pipe extending angularly therefrom, a-burner mounted at right angles'lto the angular end thereof, a chisel supporting member secured ,to the front of the said handle, a chisel provided at one end with' a slot, and ascrew adapted to extend through said slot for adjustably securing said chisel to said supporting member.

In,a paint remover, a handle, a burner secured thereto, a chisel aogustably mounted on one end of said handle, a supply tank, straps secured to said tank adapted to be carried by the operator, a feed pipe extending through said handle and communicating withsaid burner, and a flexible tube connecting said feed pipe with said tank, substantially as described.

Inl a paint remover, a handle, a feed pipe extending therethrough, an, angularY portion extending `Vfrom one end of said -feed pipe, a burner mounted on the angular endof said feed pipe, a charging pan secured at right angles to said angular end, a ehisel'supp'orting member secured to said handle, a chisel adjustably mounted thereon, a supply tank, means for connecting. said supply tank with said feed pipe, and an adtank for supporting said burner, substantially'as described.

4. In a paint remover, a handle, a feed pipe extending therefrom, the front end of said feed pipe extending angularly therefrom, a burner mounted at right angles to the angular end thereof, a chisel supporting member secured to' the front of the said handle, a' chisel provided at one end with a slot, and a screw adapted to extend through said slot for adjustably securing said chisel r to said supporting member.
